513s

A different opinion here. I went on the strong recommendation of my shop to go with 513s. 99% of my driving is around town and some highway.

I've put 400 miles or so on the 513s and it's perfect with none of the sacrifice mentioned above. Opposite of exhausting - driving around town and on the highway at 75 much more pleasant. The automatic shifts are MUCH smoother and natural feeling.

If you are considering 513s - do it!
This is interesting. I feel like there are SOOO many recommendations for 5.13. I am really afraid of gearing too low but almost every shop has recommended the 5.13 with the 8 speed.

1000% Agree.
I recommend people at least drive one first. 5.13 is perfect with this new transmission.

I completely agree with @JWAustinVTX , I have absolutely no regrets with 5.13's and would recommend to everyone running 37's (35's too). I have all my gears back and I'm shifting less on the highways and 4low is amazing. I too have owned a dozen jeeps and have always gone with 4.88's not knowing the benefits of 5.13's. 5.13's all the way
Forgot to mention mine is a manual 6-speed

I have a jlur with a 6spd on 37s and am thinking I'm going to go with the 5:13, originally I was thinking 4:88. In FL it's flat so no problems with the 4:10 or 4:88 probably. though 6th is useless w/410. When I was up in the mountains 5th became useless. Definitely need the gearing back. Pulling a trailer is a pain as well. So I'm really leaning towards the 513 Hopefully I can stop being lazy and just get it done.

I was set on 4.88's until Todd's (@Brew211) post. Now I'm thinking 5.12's as well, even though I plan to stay with 35's (315/70r17 closer to 34.4..yea yea lol).

Just booked an appointment to have 5.13 put in. My shop highly recommended them as well.

I'm in an auto Rubi running 37's. When I drove to Moab last year, it sucked. 5th gear all the time time on the highway. Around Texas, trying to do 80 (legal), it is so rare with the 4.10s and 37s. Mostly stays in 6, sometimes 7 and 8 only downhill with a tailwind. Shop says I'll see 8th a lot again, just like when it was stock. Can't wait.

You're going to love it. Report back after install

Sorry for the late response.
@75mph on flat ground in 6th gear with 37's: 2,500-2,700
This motor likes to rev, but that might be a bit much on long trips. Now I think 4.88 again.

Edit: Never mind, most of my time is spent < 70 and I'd love the gearing on the trail. Back to 5.13 already. lol

Thats funny, I did the same thing going back and forth.
Honestly, I drove it to work today on the highway and at 2,500 I think is perfect, still enough to punch it to pass, but not noisy at all.

Ha...I've researched this too much. Consensus seems to be the 6 speed with 37s and 5.13 runs at 2500 rpm at 70mph in 6th....4.88 runs at 2350rpm. At 80mph, bump those numbers up 200rpm. Driving in 4th gear with 4.10s is like 5.38 gears in 6th gear...so slightly stronger than 5.13.

I have no idea what you just said, I'm so confused..... I have no regrets on 5.13's having 4.88's in the past.

haha. I followed you and have done the same "gear math" multiple times. The auto has a similar comparison. 6th gear with 4.10 is the same as 7th gear with 4.88. 7th gear with 4.10 is the same as 8th gear with 5.13.
