In a moment of weakness waiting for 2 door JL I was looking at 4 runners, and noticed:

Look at the guys leg, the dash has collapsed over the seat:

the 2 door JK (JL not tested yet), is almost as bad, and the side hit is not ok:

Hopefully the JL is better (oddly the 4 door jk was not as bad), seems like some really solid rock rails might help some (in some cases)

The major difference between the JK and the 4Runner (and the JL for that matter) is the 4 Runner has knee airbags to help protect your knees from the impact. Not the case with the JK or the JL. So yes even though the dash comes down on the knees in the 4Runner (not a good thing), the airbags will help minimize the impact.

I am 6'4" the entire lower section of the 4runner is over the seat, my leg would be destroyed regardless of airbag. For an airbag to work as intend the area between air bag and seat needs to hold enough to direct force into airbag. In this case its not a body hitting into the airbag, its the structure behind it colapsing into and past the driver's body.

Another thing I like about the new scores is they are rating the lights, I would love to see Jeep step up and offer LED lights as an option on all Wrangler models. Being able to see better and avoid an accident is something we all prefer over hoping the various chassis and airbags all work as we hope.

I'm far from an engineer, but I swear the rock rails on my Rubicon helped me...

The dent in the Honda's hood is from the rocker
I think if I dont end up getting a Rubicon (I change my mind once a week, while waiting for 2 door), I will add them as an early option as much for on road as offroad. The picture of the side impact into the 2 door JK leads me to believe I want something more.

It also reminded me I am gonna pick a BEEFY tubing on my tube half doors.
