If you put on bigger wheels do you need to change the brakes?

The Sport has 17" wheels. The tyre diameter is 32"
The Sahara has 18" wheels. Again the tyre diameter is 32"

If I put the Sport wheels and tyres on the Sahara, would I have to change the brakes?

For that? Unless your brakes currently have excessive wear and tear on them, the answer is no.

However, if you were upgrading to a much larger and heavier wheel&tire combo, I would upgrade the major BRAKING SYSTEM components with beefier parts all around, not just the brakes.

As far as brake rotor size you should not have any problem with wheel size on a JL as long as the wheels are 17" diameter and larger. As said above if you go to a larger tire say 35s, 37s, 38s, 40s you may want to consider upgrading your braking components to a heavier duty rotor and pads.

The sports have smaller rotors than the Sahara and Rubicon. If your sticking with those wheels and tires you should be good.

Going larger than a 35” I’d be looking at upgraded rotors and pads.

This thread is not long enough so….

OP no you do not need BLs.

Im running BFG KM3s on Mopar rims at 12 psi on So Cal trails and rocks with no issues.

Although most BLs are not DOT approved, I am unaware of any law on the books in California that prohibits them or requires wheels to be DOT approved.

No need to do this with a Sahara, at least not until you're into larger than 37" tires. The Sahara shares the same brakes as the Rubicon. If you're looking to go to 37+ on a Sahara, you're looking at new axels anyway.
