Are you out of your mind? Not only would that cause a ton of wear due to low oil pressure at idle, it would be environmental disaster that would wake up other campers and potentially cause you to run out of gas before you get back to the trailhead. How about stay at a motel if you want AC, or wheel your Jeep to a higher cooler elevation - its a jeep after all.

No, just no. Pull a camper if you need glamping.

Thanks for the replies.

OK, did not realize this. The car is new and the oil pressure was within bounds, but I guess could see how that could still add unnecessary wear.

it would be environmental disaster
:D I know it's not optimal but that doesn't make it a "disaster".

would wake up other campers
For your peace of mind, there were no other campers.

The silent killer. Carbon Monoxide poisoning
How can you get poisoning outdoors with the exhaust in the back?

There wouldn’t be low oil pressure at idle and IMHO would it cause undo wear. Thousands of police cars, for example, idle for hours every shift.

So because Police cars do it, its ok? The engine is not at its optimal temperature, allowing moisture to collect since it doesn't evaporate. The cat isn't at temp, causing more emissions. A car is not designed to be at idle for that long, its designed to be under load. Police cars are maintained silly-style to cope with the abuse of long hours at idle, and do so out of necessity, not convenience.
I'm not saying its a HORRIBLE idea to run it at idle for long periods of time, your engine isn't going to explode. But its certainly not ideal.

I would try super cooling the vehicle instead, leave the AC on full blast for a bit until it cant get any colder then maybe use a battery powered fan to stay cool and circulate the air for the next few hours.

Most of the above is BS tree hugger crap however carbon monoxide is no joke and will kill you. I wouldn't advise this for this reason alone. The other stuff is BS.
This is correct. A friend of a friend died this way sleeping in his car in the winter.
