Since getting my 21 4xe rubicon I’ve done some minor mods (rock rails, light protectors etc). This weekends project is changing out the alum front bumper for the steel version. I seem to always be looking for tools that go wandering around the house. Can someone advise me on what tools are a must. I’m going to get a toolbox just for Jeep stuff and lock it. I have the trim kit removal tool set already. Thanks!

I picked up a set of metric sockets, metric ratcheting combination box wrenches, and moved my 1/2" breaker bar from the garage tool box to the back of the Jeep. I keep the tools in one of those roll up tool bags (thanks @wibornz for that suggestion). I have the splined lug nuts so the correct adapter is in there along with an assortment of the basics - screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, etc. That bag along with extra coolant, oil, PS fluid, bottle jack, paper towels goes into a Plano plastic tub.

I make it a point to use the jeep tool bag for everything I do, if there is something I'm missing (except torque wrenches) I look at whether or not it's something I think I'll need on the trail. I think the last thing I added was a hex driver for the ARB diff covers.

I'll add a multimeter to the bag when we go on trips.

We have used the multi meter on our current trip.

Just to clarify, you mean a garage tool set, not necessarily a trail bag, right?

For years I drug around in my truck box a Craftsman mechanics tool set (SAE, Metric, ratchets. sockets, screw drivers, bits, etc...) that came in its own formed plastic case.

When I got the JL I transferred that full set, plus some other tools, to a tool roll made by Rhino. I'm very happy with it and it's much quieter in the cab of the Jeep than it was before.

As far as what tools to have I'd suggest a full mechanics kit, a breaker bar, hammer, and other misc. or specialty tools needed to repair your rig while on the trail.

Don't forget the recovery gear!
