Thought I'd share, I have an Icom ID-4100a, and found that it tucks up perfectly on the driver's side behind the OBD port. The head unit for this radio also fits perfectly in front of the gear shifter. After using a cat5 extension cable, the mic sits perfectly near the e-brake with the wire into the console hole for the ebrake (hidden almost completely when not in use).

I was thinking of wiring the audio from the Icom into an aux input for the 8.4 UConnect, but there’s no need. Audio output is plenty loud from the Icom itself without any sort of extension speaker!

The head unit fit nicely in front of the shifter.

The mic tucks nicely next to the e-brake with a cat5 extension cable back to the radio.

Used the ZROADZ Lower A-Pillar Light Mount for the Larsen dual band antenna.

That's a great find, how did you route power and the antenna lines? I will probably be installing another Kenwood and want to avoid blocking the underseat vents.

@ormandj I ran the power, a cat5 extension cable for the mic, and head unit control wire on the cross member tight under the steering wheel and wired it into the always-on of the aux switches if I remember right.

I have the mic extension cable come up inside the e-brake housing and have the coiled mic cable come out above the e-brake.

Antenna wire runs down the drivers-side under the carpet to the rear of the jeep, but I'm going to find a mount for the hood cowling below the driver-side A-pillar and move the antenna there for SWR reasons.

Very clean look overall...

Where did you place the head unit? Any pics? I am considering the same radio.

Got my radio in today. Waiting on bracket to mount. How did you secure the bracket and have you had any issues? Was the internal speaker loud enough?

Ive been wanting to run a Yaesu 857-D, but have been struggling to find a good spot for it. This looks like a viable option.

Im currently running an Anytone....which is surprisingly good considering its country of origin and price. I literally just ran self tapping screws right into the plastic. The unit doesn't weigh anything, and hasn't moved at all.

I put the 4100's head unit right in front of the auto gear shifter. It fits perfect between the gear shifter and the bottom of the console where the aux switches are. Although the head unit squeezes in snug, I added some doube-stick tape to hold it in place.

I added the bolt/nut (with the blue locktite) you can see in the first pic fits perfectly though the mount for the 4100. I didn't put a second nut on top of the mount for weeks because the radio sits so snugly.

Got my 4100 mounted same as yours. I modified a cellphone holder with some velcro and placed the controller nice and high so I don't get distracted while driving. Have a Cat5 extension between the drivers seat and center console. I can disconnect and store mic when not in use. A cheap Tram dual band antenna on a diamond NMO mount on drivers side hood. I take the general exam on the 16th so I can not transmit yet. I have some local stations programmed in to listen to for now.

What's the track bar running overhead? I really like that.
