I haven’t decided to do this but I’ve got an idea brewing in my head.

I’m kinda tired of waiting on @Bestop to make the retractable sunshade that had been promised for the Sunrider for Hardtop. So I started scouting around for some way to build my own. Then I found replacement sunshade parts for various cars on the site linked below.

My thought here is to design and 3d print some parts for mounting the shade and securing the shade to the top of the windshield. Once figured out I’d share the designs so anyone could make their own.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has thought about, or tried doing this.

I'm curious to see what you come up with. I simply don't have the time to try anything on my own.

I would be curious how the JK one is different, could it be adapted, those are some pretty steep prices in that website

That would probably be the best place to start.

Wouldnt 3D printed mounting brackets just melt and warp in the heat inside the car? My buddy had some 3D printed (non-car related) stuff in his car for a day and they warped pretty badly to the point that they were no longer usable and had to be thrown away.

that depends on the type of filament used during the printing process. PLA only lasts to up to 150F but ABS is good up to 212F (100C). PA can go even higher.

Of course you can also get things printed in metal but $$$$$..
Alternatively I would have my brother CNC any parts out of aluminum.

I’m going to listen to Four Low and take a look at the JK’s screen. It may be easier to simply modify it.

If you figure it out, make two and I'll give you some dolla dolla bills for the second one. Or a questionable Teraflex track bar, whichever you prefer.

Amazing that when the sun comes out everyone starts thinking the same.
Any update on this? Very interested to see what you come up with.

I'm onboard also!! Was on another post about this idea....the Jk one is already in existence, I'm sure with some time and know how it can be re-engineered to fit the JL. It is basically just two bolts where it attaches to the roll bar(assuming the header latches are in the same location). The design is the only one I care for ...specially since it can be kept in place with the top change(seasonally)
