Wait a second! You don't have to be field tested to be human! Yes maybe I would not know what it is being shot at and looking for help from others - but it does NOT deter me from helping strangers or trying to do something to make this world a better place. Maybe I was not put in a situation where I get a chance to give my life to protect others but there are ways that I had tried my best to help others and making a differences in their life. That is such an arrogant mindset!

I fully support our troops and men in uniform the best I can! I considered myself to be patriotic and the last July I wave a flag in my Jeep. I had sent care packages to military overseas. And I am a naturalized citizen. Do you know how hard IT IS to be a naturalized citizen? Only to be ostracized by self righteous American by telling me how lucky I am to be a US naturalized citizen? I don't need you to tell me that nor I need your approval. I CHOOSED to be a citizen of this country And I contributed to this country the best as I can. In my own way.

So according to you basically if I am not in a life and death environment makes me less capable of caring for each other? Well guess what?! There are such thing called EMPATHY that is a necessary component to care for others. And you don't have to be in life and death situation to earn that. Heck!!! Even if you are in life and death situation you might not even have that in the interaction with others.

Thanks a lot!
Ken,

As a Marine, I will not only give you a wave (Jeep or otherwise) but a full Military salute. Thank you for being a true blue American.

Most Americans are born into it and sadly don't appreciate it. Those who choose to become a United States citizen truly know what an honor and privilege that is.

Right hand Salute...

On the more thread related topic, wow I didn't truly know all the drama involved with a wave. Or the rules behind one.

I'll wave at any Jeeper because there is this bond between us all. I'll wave at anyone (no matter the circumstance) who waves at me. I'll wave at anyone who shows courtesy to another while behind the wheel. Politeness and respect are sorely lacking on our roads today. Doing something nice will always gain my wave of gratitude.

Furthermore I may or may not be so faithful at waving at a Bronco, it will depend on the circumstance or my mood. However, I'll always wave to a fellow Jeeper. There will always be a kindred spirit to someone who feels a similar passion to their vehicle as I do to mine. To me a Bronco will certainly always be a copy-cat and Jeep wanna-be.

Regardless, waves are a show of respect.

Semper Fi will always be revered for my Marine Corps bothers. That's forever, 'Always Faithful'.

However, a salute (from me) will only be to those that have truly earned it.

Thanks Ken.

Jay

Mike, I respect your opinion, but I have a somewhat different view. You’re right; none of us invented the wave. It was invented by humans in the ancient past. It was not invented by Jeepers. Also, any of us can “change” it if we want to, but a wave is, after all, just a wave, so what is there to change? It’s a greeting and an acknowledgment. When I wave to a fellow Jeeper, it means something somewhat different than when I wave to someone in a different vehicle. The intent is somewhat different, but the action is the same. Does this make sense?

I regret that you feel I am disrespecting a Jeep thing; that certainly is not my intent.
OK, maybe "disrespect" is a bit harsh... lol. Sometimes I can be a bit cynical but I do stand by the Jeep wave (the two fingers off the wheel wave) was invented by Jeepers for Jeepers and is for Jeeps :)
I have come up with a solution, I will Jeep wave at Jeeps and I will Forest Gump wave at other off road vehicles...

All the warm and fuzzy kum-ba-yah comments are nice and all especially during this $hit time in our nation but here's the deal... you didn't invent the wave and you don't get to change it. And by "you" I mean any of us. It's a Jeep thing and belongs to Jeepers, specifically Wranglers, and I don't think it should be shared among other brands. Let the FJs, Broncos and Tacos do their own thing. IMO it's a Jeep thing, not an off road thing, not a motorcycle thing, not a built rig thing... a JEEP thing and should be respected as such.
Often when I drive through the country in the middle of nowhere, the folks driving out there give me the exact same friendly wave. It is most definitely not 'a jeep thing, that belongs to jeepers'. You go out far enough in the sticks (at least over here in the western states) you're going to get a ton of waves from people in all sorts of rigs.

Ever ride a street bike? Lol. All puffed up over a wave. It's not that big a deal, just a wave......

Geesh... what a mess. I'm not puffed up and it's not a big deal. The OP gave his reasons and I gave mine. I'm simply saying, in terms of Jeeps waving at Jeeps... I'm not waving at a new Bronco, just like I don't wave at a FJ or a Bro Dozer, or a Renegade, Prius, Vette, Taraus, etc...
I wave at people all the time in the sticks or in general... little old ladies, people sitting on their front porch... I was simply saying Jeep waves are for Jeeps.

Porsche guys wave to one another too. It’s definitely not just a Jeep thing.
Right and so do Prius people but do you see Porsche guys waving at Jeeps? Do you see them waving at Vettes (heck no!)? Do you see them waving at Prius'? No. THAT was my original point, Jeeps wave at Jeeps... not Broncos.
I laugh when I'm in a different vehicle and I find myself waving at Jeeps. They look at you funny but some realize you probably have a Jeep back at home.

We'll just mark it down as a misunderstanding. I have no problem with the Jeep wave. Don't care either way if we get one or not, although I always rib my wife when she doesn't get a wave. "It's because they think you're a soccer mom and not a real jeeper".

Yeaaaaah man its just a wave. Everybody waved, cookie monster waved, your sister waved, heck even my dog can wave. Just like how you are driving a vehicle! Everyone drives a vehicle, cookie monster drives some sort of Sesame Street vehicle and it is still a vehicle nevertheless, your sister drives a vehicle (sorry for my grammar - they sucks) and heck if I dog can drive a vehicle he would be taking me go vrooming around the country side.

There are something what we call "CONTEXT". Over generalization can be anything but the discussion is NOT in context of the subject matter? Small town people especially down south waves cause it is "howdy neighbors" kind of thing - but it does not mean that they are doing a Jeep Wave or Jeep Wave have anything to do with their waving.

Yes yes I hear you, you brother waves, your neighbor waves, your boss waves - psshhh you get my point.
I thought the context was that the wave is reserved for Jeep people? Is that not what was being insinuated? I think you're overgeneralizing by saying I'm overgeneralizing, so there! [Snorts indignantly]

Back on to the true topic (?), I won't be waving to new Bronco's. Not unless they are on the trail, and I pretty much wave at everyone on the trail.

Jeep's get the Jeep wave.
Folks driving in the country get the country folk wave.
And little kids get the kid wave.

No wave's for the cookie monster or any of the others you mentioned.

Shuddap Notorious don't pretend you are shocked and horrified at the COOKIE MONSTER LIFE MATTER! I know that if it were you - you would say that "NINJA TURTLES™ LIVES MATTER" as well.

Tsk! Faker! Trouble!
OK, I gotta ask where are you from originally? I love your broken grammar :) Scandinavian? Eastern European?
