Funny you ask. I haven’t. But I have watched a ton of videos on YouTube though. Some of the “back country” skiing on baldy after a big storm is mind blowing.
I’ve had some great days at Baldy.

Dang it, @alksion , @RagTopDeluxe , and this thread got me Jones’ing for the Bay Area and skiing every weekend up at Tahoe…

Then again, winter in the middle of the Pacific isn’t too bad. The humidity breaks, thankfully, and instead of sunny and 85 deg F, it’s sunny and 82 deg F.

Cheers,
-CM-

Yeah I’m dying for a good season. One of my favorite things to do and places to be…Snowboarding and the mountains is where I find peace. Photos from bear, park city and mammoth

Not to change the subject, or hijack this thread, but do you leave your Jeep in Auto 4WD? You said you engaged the select trac.

The summer has been a mixed bag. Mid September and it was humid as hell yesterday. I'm looking forward to the winter so I can get back out riding, and I'm hoping for some decent weather.

Last winter when our ski hills were closed I had a work trip to Vancouver. I stayed an extra 2 days and went to Whistler. Day one was nothing but snow. Day 2 the sun came out and the groomers were awesome.

I love snowboarding. I'll go alone, in the rain, on the ice, what ever the conditions are. Just love being out there.

Yes. I engage the Selec-Trac when the rains start, around this time of year, and leave it on until the spring.

The only times I engage out of 4H Auto, is when I hit the trails; then it goes into Part-Time 4WD.

I have been told my many techs that is bad for the vehicle regardless of brand. Auto 4wd engages the front end, and uses clutches in the tcase that slip so you can drive on dry pavement and not tear up hubs and other things. The problem is those clutches wear out being engaged for so long. The Auto 4 was not designed to be used that much. You are putting a lot of premature wear on your system. I have seen a lot of 4wd's come in from Ford, GM, and Ram needing a transfer case rebuild at 80-90,000 miles because of this. It's best to use 2wd, and put in Auto if needed. Not trying to sound like a dick, and I'm sure someone will say I'm wrong but working at a dealership I see this stuff, and talk to the techs to see what things happen. I do like Auto4, and wish I had it, but I still only use it as little as possible for that reason. I don't know how long you keep your vehicles so it might not matter if you trade often, but if you keep them for a while I recommend using it sparingly, and using 2hi, or 4hi as much as possible.

Yes, I am aware that Selec-Trac uses clutches, and that clutches wear out over time.

If it is true that the clutches last 80,000 miles when left on full-time, then I’m hoping I’ll get 150,000 miles out of it using it 5-6 months of the year.

At the end of the day, I bought the Jeep to use it.

Amen. I do the same. Often the storms hit in the middle of the week locally and I go up by myself because the wife and friends are working. It's truly serenity.

I'm guess I'm the kind of guy thats never happy, I don't like extremes, so hate full -25C degrees of winters here and hate those 32C humid heatwaves we get in canada so I'm currently super happy cause my two favorite seasons are Autumn and Spring....lol...but ya, even in Canada here we noticed the earth weather changes and heat waves/droughts of this summer, the lawns are usualy green over here all summer but this summer it dried up bad and we had more "water conservation notices" than we usualy have in a few years together.

Enjoying the respite right now, and ya first snows will be fun and cool!

Anyone else looking forward to the end of summer and Jeeping in winter?
Autumn is my favorite season, not least of all because it provides the greatest frequency of correct temperatures for top-down driving.

I like the A/C button, but I'm also content to arrive at a place on the calendar when I no longer have to depend on that button.

Southern Arizona has gotten 12"+ of rain this summer, which has been fantastic. As the temperatures drop into the low 90's and 80's I will take the doors off and drop the soft top. I can't wait for 8 months of open air driving.

I live in Hell, we pray for winter all summer long.
Move to Tucson, we are on the third level of hell compared to Phoenix being on the sixth level. A little cooler up here.
