See, you did it wrong!

If you had tallied all those costs on an itemized spreadsheet like I did beforehand, you might have deleted things until you ended up under $1k. Problem solved...sort of? 😆
Well- you’re half right. Do the itemized spreadsheet, the, uhh, one left where the wife can spot it. Only look at it and ignore the actual receipts safely stashed from view in an obscure location.
Simple- out of sight out of mind, with the added bonus of no….. well, less

It all adds up over time and that's how the cost get away from 'ya.
I'm not complaining, but it was an eye opener for sure.
I emailed my wife a link to this thread. Wish me luck.

Hi Sweetie, go ahead and book that dream vacation. :involve:

You left off the diamonds, jewelry, furniture, new flooring, new washer/dryer, new kitchen granite countertops, etc

based on your spreadsheet data, you are falling behind.

That works both ways. Whenever I spend $$$$ on rational, absolutely needed, necessary, can’t do without, gotta have, Jeep upgrades it gives her an excuse to squander $$$$ on useless unnecessary crap because I spent money on my “High Dollar Jeep”.
Keep the risk management spreadsheet made using a little “creative writing” easily spotted. 😁

This is my first jeep. I didn't know all that much when I bought it.

But I did know the cost difference between my JLU Willys sport and a Rubicon with the same options. Difference of, $14,976.

I told myself I will wear out most of the stock parts first, then I have $14,976 to play with.

I am NOT going to keep a spread sheet, that way it really can't be tracked. I do know that I am roughly at $6,500, $7000 in mods, another 6 to 7K before I get to the price of the Rubicon.

That said, I did pay it off first. Next little mod. A smoked LED third brake light to match the taillights.

I will honestly say that there is a crap load of stuff I do want. I try really hard to be patient, eventually I'm sure I will give in.

LOL this thread makes me laugh. i always wondered how someone could buy a brand new fully loaded wrangler and dump tons of coin into it. Now i get it, i did it all wrong, i should have had a sugar mamma. instead i had one w kids that loved to cause financial drain. LOL.
Thankfully now, im in charge of my own finances. Ive done some things to mine, im pretty happy where its at now. Have a pretty good idea of where i want to go next. Honestly though im more focused on traveling w my son before he hits the age where thats no longer cool. With having a house and a bike, i have to do a very fine balancing act. ahhhhh some days makes me miss the simple life living at home, work, eat, ride my motorcycle and hang out with friends.....

Who keeps track!? That’s enough to make you realize you could’ve take a few dreams vacations for the amt spent on your jeep. 🤣.

I stopped counting last year when I had to drop almost $15k on a new engine, steering box, a new clutch, and adjustable track bar. I need new tires now and I just can’t bear to part with another $2k for them 🤦‍♀️🤣.

or at least some therapy..
This morning I created a detailed excel spreadsheet of my spending to date

$16,634.73 (no labor included)
Total doesn't include front steel bumper or CavFab rear bumper powder coating.
I could have paid off the loan!!!
I hereby declare a self-imposed moratorium on jeep aftermarket parts spending.

That moratorium might last till the July 4th sales! 🤣

I put a lot into my Jeep that burned down. Approximately $26,563. That doesn't include all the things I planned on keeping which was another $5075. This includes things like the power Tank, the door cart, 2-fridges, safe-jack, and recovery gear. Since it burned to the ground most of that stuff was burned with it. I did have the power Tank at home which I'm glad for as I don't know how they handle fire.

I didn't get anything back for the add-ons from the insurance company even though they said they would. I don't think I'll do the same to the new 392. I've got around $4500 planned for it for now. A lot of that is replacing things that were lost. Who knows what the future holds though....
