om my 08 from day one it says 5w-20 I have been using 5w-30 I have 140,000 mi runs like new now on my 2018 jl it says 0-20 just wondering what viscosity oil do yall use in your 3.6l , the reason I ask because before someone says u should use what it says we also have a fleet of fords and all of them gas engines that say 5-20 and they have been using 5-40 because of the diesels trucks they have and these trucks have no issues and some of them have over 350,000 miles running 5-40 oil in and its obvious my 08 has no problems

The manual states 0w-20 synthetic oil. There are many oil resources out there discussing oil weights and there are many different factors besides weight to consider when selecting an oil. Ultimately for the sake of warranty most people will put in what the factory recommends.

The simple answer is to follow OEM specs. That's why I use 0W-20 in my JLU. It's also why I used 15W-40 in my F250 diesel and 20W-50 in my Harley.

You’re vehicles have lasted so long because you do the required regular maintenance. You could probably use 5-30 dino oil and the engine will last forever with regular changes. But I’d the manual says 0-20 synthetic and you have engine problems, you may get a warranty claim rejected. I just go with what the manual says.

PSA- the new JLs take 5 quarts, not 6 like the older JKs.

Another thing to consider is oil’s and engines are evolving together so we all have to evolve our thinking about oil’s. They’re designing these new engines with tight clearances , variable timing , smaller orifices , heat transfer issues , it’s very complicated now. Like others have said you probably couldn’t hurt it no matter what you put in it within reason. I gave it a lot of thought also I’m going to stick with the 0w20 synthetic until it’s got a lot of miles on it and it’s out of warranty then I’ll probably go to a 5w20 or maybe 5w30 max
