I found an easy way to get to your aux battery. But I don’t recommend it

Yup. In my experience, quick disassembly usually means prolonged reassembly

Good job OP! You eliminated death wobble AND auxiliary battery obstruction in a single move while proving how little the steering damper actually absorbs!
...and that the aluminum knuckles are breakable.

Another reason I got the diesel, no need for all this fuss to get to the AUX battery . Ouch and hope only the jeep got hurt.
It BLOWS MY MIND that the aux battery has an access panel on the diesel but not the normal gas engines. All they had to do with make the PDC wiring a bit longer and plop it where the diesel's go. I hope the $5 they saved on wiring makes up for all the labor spent on warranty aux battery replacements

I've always wondered the same thing. Is it simply hiring a smarter engineer by the time the diesel was being designed? Along those lines: does the 392 have the same questionable design, or maybe it doesn't have an aux?

The 392 doesn't have an aux. It doesn't have stop start.

I suspect it's what you said, a totally different engineer. By the time both models were completed they just didn't care enough to retrofit the new battery tray design. I'm sure that choice has caused big $ in increased labor repairs for all the battery replacements we've done.

I assume a lot of the layout difference has to do with the diesel intake being on the opposite side. The way the body narrows, gassers probably don't have room to simply swap the PDC and CRK/main battery positions. And the way the wheel well arches, the AUX battery can't be moved forward.

But it's still a very poor design decision. Probably should have just put an access panel in the fender liner.
