I change my mind...I don't want to share the JL with the wife anymore.

I drive a Renegade too. With bigger tires and a lift, it's so much fun to drive.
But what exactly about the Renegade prompted you to get a JL?
A friend of mine said, the JL feels like a mixture of JK and BU (Renegade) to him.
Funny enough, I've already lifted her BU. We're still running stock tires, because we haven't found anything that we really like to fit the 18's. We may end up having to find some 17's which will give us a lot more tire options that fit under the BU.
As for what about it prompted me to buy the JL. I've been driving Rams since '04, and each one gets a little bigger than the last. My last one (a 2014) was a crew cab with a lift and oversize tires, etc. It was a beast. We referred to it as "the Beluga" because it was a whale (and it was white). I'd drive her Renegade and it felt nimble and fun to drive. It was also surprisingly roomy for as small as it was. I've wanted a Wrangler since we rented one on vacation back in '03. I'd also been drooling over the JT for the last few years, when the rumors of them started floating around. I'd been missing my Dakota (it was a '99) for some time, and the JT looked like a good choice to fill that void. However after driving the BU, I realized a SUV may fill the same void. It only took 1 test drive to realize the JL felt a lot like my Dakota used to, and I wouldn't have to wait for the JT any more.
So basically, just because it was comfortable, and easy/fun to drive.

... or wait a little and get a JT so you’ll still have a truck for stuff.
I actually considered doing exactly that. The problem was I had no idea how much they were going to cost, or how hard it would be to find one once they hit the market. I was also a little concerned about a first year vehicle. I realize the JL is a "first year", but it's more of a face lift than a brand new vehicle. The JT, may share a lot with the JL, but there's still a lot of newly designed stuff to make it a truck, so I decided to go with the JL and maybe get a JT in a few years.

I tried 4 different combinations. A often recommended one is 225/65r17
BUT!: It felt the best for me with 215/70r16
That's what I drive now (with Grabber ATs)
That's the perfect size for the Renegade in my opinion. And the exact scope of the 225/55r18. So no speedometer corrections.

Lol, I picked my Jeep up the Monday before last. Wife drove it once and decided she needed to take it on her yearly girls trip to Idaho. So here I am a week into finally having the jeep I waited 14 weeks for, and I still don't have a Jeep. Sigh..

She keeps me updated with photos though.

Think she is in love with it, and I'm back to my Fiesta.

The 01 had so many things wrong with it that it was going to cost three times the value of the Jeep to repair it. I had planned to give her to my daughter when she moved to her first apartment after graduating from college a few months ago, but the breakdown risks that *I* am willing to accept are not the same that I am willing to put on my daughter when she is driving a couple of hours alone on the highway. I still miss my old Jeep, but I sold her and used the money to help my daughter get a new car that she loves.

The 2012 was the HEMI version. My husband bought it new. I was supposed to get a new car this year, but I realized that I wanted to keep driving a Jeep. He said he didn't want a Jeep anymore, so I said I would take the Overland when he bought an Audi S5. I spent a couple of months trying to change things on it to make it feel like mine, but it just never did. I kept looking at really old Wranglers online that I could fit in my budget and have as a fun car.

I have wanted a Wrangler for as long as I can remember but always talked myself out of it since they were loud and impractical as a daily driver. Plus I couldn't wrap my head around spending the same for a Wrangler with minimal creature comforts as I would for the Grand Cherokee with nearly all of the options. I was actually out on a lunch date with my husband and asked to swing by the Jeep dealership so I could see them in person and "just get owning one out of my system." There was a white JL Rubicon on the lot, and I came home with it. I traded the Overland towards it since the Overland was already paid off. It made the new payments less horrifying since we didn't have plans to even get another car, let alone have two car payments at once.

We were out for dinner with the two youngest daughters shortly after buying the Wrangler. My husband was talking about cars with our middle girl when I heard him say, "some people like different things about cars, like my car is faster than Mommy's." I looked up and said, "and my car can drive over Daddy's." My youngest daughter thought it was hysterical and wrote it on her napkin with a little picture.

This is so near our stable as well. Covet my wife's JLUR, but have been considering an S5 replacement for my A6 TDI. Hard weighing the drop in mileage and range along with the additional car payment, tho. Unfortunate that the pending diesel powered S cars from Audi won't make it to the US :crying:

Enjoy!

I hate car payments but loved the Jeep more. :)

So.... we bought a Jeep so we would could do some fun things together and now three weeks into this we are scheduling out who gets to drive it on what days. We both have a daily driver and I think we have put more gas in the Jeep than the other two combine since the purchase. I've even tried to rationalized in my head that I should try to sell my truck and get another Jeep...so I don't have to share.
So my question is, does anyone have to share with their significant other and why does owning a JL make you want to spend money you don't have?

P.S. Honey, if you read this post, I love you but....

I have this same issue (sort of). I bought a JLU but my wife likes it better than her car and always wants to drive it. We have 2 other cars and she doesn't like them any longer. Even our son makes up reasons to drive the JLU. We need family counseling. As for spending money I don't have I have a list that I created of all the modifications I want. I look at that list more than I listen to my favorite playlist. I need a second job for my Jeep addiction. Somebody please help me.

Maybe we can start a local chapter of Jeeps Anonymous! What part of Georgia are you in?

My husband has his own car but keeps borrowing my Jeep. At first I let him because he likes fast cars so I thought it would get it out of his system. No luck. He just keeps saying how surprised he is that he loves it so much. Now I catch him sneakily looking at Jeeps online like a teenage boy trying to hide he is watching porn.
From online porn to online Jeeps there may be no hope for of us... teenage through much past that.

Uh oh... My wife is coming around the the Wrangler. When she got her BU, she didn't even consider the JL/JK. Her Renegade isn't that old, but now that she's gotten to enjoy mine a bit she's already saying things like "maybe my next car will be a Wrangler". Crap this is going to get expensive. :)

LOL!!! Imo that is pretty awesome! Now your mission is to try to guide her to get one in a different color maybe like the one that would have been your 2nd choice, same with the trim, someone needs a soft top and someone needs a hard top, etc., etc. Between two Wranglers in the garage y’all might just have a whole bunch of the possible combinations out there!

I like the way you think.
I wanted Mojito, but couldn't find one with all the options I wanted. I found various Mojito Saharas in the area, but I couldn't find one with everything I wanted. Even expanding the search to 100 miles didn't help. Most of them had the standard rims/tires, and I wanted the TechGray rims and AT tires. The other thing lacking on a lot of them was the enter-n-go, and the heated seats which were absolute must have items. The rims/tires may have been workable since there is a huge aftermarket, but the other two had to be there.
Anyway, I like your idea. Maybe I can talk my wife into a Mojito, even if it's missing a few of the things I wanted on mine. She was a lot less concerned about the seats, and was more concerned with park sensors and 8.4 Nav radio. Maybe we can find her a Mojito with all of her must have items. Might be a hard sell on the soft top for her, she seems to like the hart top too. Guess, I'll just have to install a second hoist.
