The “agreement” means nothing if CARB gets obliterated (and it should). Car makers will build what people want if government gets out of the way. These automakers have been getting strangled by unrealistic regulations and green mandates for far too long.

I agree that a 5.7/6.4 with manual trans being standard equipment is a stretch, but it could definitely be an inexpensive option.

The farmers I grew up with would take a simple V8 over any complicated little 4/6 banger with a turbo attached to it.
The agreement does mean something, even if CARB is "obliterated". Try reading up on it, you'll be both disappointed that your dreams aren't coming true, and subsequently surprised about the world of factual information that exists around you.

I have been reading up on it, and a lot of spoons are in the pot right now. The EV mandate is dead. CARB is on the chopping block, as well as a number of CAFE/emission standards. None of the automakers are going to stick to those standards past what they already have in the pipeline. They want to sell what the market wants, not what the government wants.

The engineers are currently moving the shock towers on the EV Charger to retrofit a V8. A V8 wasn’t even in the plans at all until this upcoming administration had discussions with the automakers. They want to get it to market in about 18 months or less. The 5.7 is the most likely as it is the easiest/cheapest/fastest option. The 6.4 or the new 3.9L twin turbo V8(currently in development) would take over two years.

It isn’t a far stretch to see the same V8 used in the Charger installed in other models.

The GME Turbo codenamed Hurricane has been available since the 2018 MY.

I have one! It sounds more like a light breeze than a hurricane. Today, I revved it while rolling towards a cross walk that my co-worker was walking in and he didn't even hear it. He must have thought someone was vacuuming their house or something.

I believe that the Hurricane will happen on the last year of the JL model. People seem to hold back when they know a new model is due to come. So to boost sales despite an obvious remodel around the corner, they’ll add the huricane L6 to boost sales.

Just like they constantly play with colors throughout model years, knowing that some people are impulsive enough to actually change a fairly new vehicle for a darn color, defying common sense and logic , they darn well know that they’ll change for an engine.

Just watch…

At least by then we’ll have some idea if this new engine will be a throw away pos or worth its salt.

I’m not sure because it doesn’t even have an oil dipstick to manually check the oil🤔

K, well, if you skipped over reading the legal agreements automakers like Stellantis have signed with the State of California and between themselves, they basically state that no matter what happens to CARB, they will continue to abide by CARB rules and targets as a matter of business practice, and as a binding legal agreement with the State of California. Those agreements still hold up if CA's EPA waiver is rescinded and CARB is disbanded.

They may not stick to those standards later, but they've agreed to them through 2030.

I'm all out of Youtube videos and tweets posted by randos to prove this, so here are some relevant articles instead.

They aren't going to engineer a JL frame for a new power plant for one year of sales. The only likely change to the JL at this point is the electrified version of the 3.6 that they mentioned a while back.
I could see them possibly going with the 5.7 once the 392 is done, but I wouldnt call it "likely".

Such Legal agreements would be overridden by a change in Federal law that disallows states from making their own rules.
CA would have no way to enforce it as compliance would be rendered impossible.

I also wonder what the consideration was for such an agreement.

Stellantis’ legal team, and lawyers who represent the State of California say otherwise. You can read a copy of the agreement online.

I definitely didn't read the full thread but as a Mopar tech you DO NOT want that engine under your hood! We have a 100% fail rate on hurricane engines currently, failed thermostat, melted cat converters, misfires ect. the list goes on and on. The motor is currently HOT garbage. Now hopefully in the next year or 2 they can figure it out but currently I couldn't begin to recommend that motor to someone.

I haven't heard anything on the development side of things for the Hurricane. With the hemi constantly getting renewed for another year I seriously doubt they'll put any R&D into that engine for the JL/JT platform. It has so many bugs to workout still by the time it's ready to be slapped into a bunch of models we'll be in the next generation by then.

I haven't seen the melted cats, but with all the misfires I guess it's to be expected. This engine is very much in the beta stage right now. I strongly agree with staying far, far away from it for awhile.

I've been looking at dealership websites, for Ram 1500 pickup trucks. It seems all the 2025 models come with that engine, that I have seen. They are "Discounted" to around $45k-$55k. The engine numbers look good with 420hp, and 460 ft/lb . But, the tow ratings suck, at around 5,600 lbs. Maybe they got the numbers wrong, but this was on two sites. Now, I also looked up the acceleration times at 0-60, 4.4 sec, and quarter mile at 13.7 sec. That is screaming for a stock truck.

Where are all these issues with the engine being seen? Grand Waggoner? Ram 1500?
Can you link up any articles, for us to read about it?

There is no more 5.7 Hemi. The last vehicle to leave the factory with a 5.7 was the 2024 Grand Cherokee L. They stopped making them a couple of months ago. They're making 2025s now and the 5.7 is not an option.
