Spent last weekend in Northern WI for deer gun season. Spent Friday prepping, and Saturday and Sunday in stand hunting. Ended up not shooting anything, didn't see a buck I wanted to take (trying to get the smaller ones a little bit bigger to grow the herd) and the doe all had fawns with them. But we had great weather (warm, probably kept the big bucks away) and a blast. And yeah, part of that was because I get to screw around with my Jeep in the woods :)

A lot of my mods have been with hunting in mind; extra lighting for the early mornings/late nights (we are in stand by 5AM for 6AM sunrise, hunt until can no longer see), the tailgate light for working out in the woods, got the carrier for hauling random junk as well as hopefully a harvest, etc etc.

We hunt on ~100 acres my FIL owns which abuts a national forest. We have probably 8-10 different stands, 5 guys out there hunting the property.

Anyways, thought y'all might enjoy some of the pics I snapped over the weekend

Here's my hitch hauler (and my girls)

Our "hunting shack" where some of the harder-core guys sleep during the season, the rest of us commute in the 2 miles from the house, but we use it as a hangout during downtime and a home base. It's about 1/3rd lounge area with propane heater/stove, table, TV, etc, 1/3rd bunk room, and 1/3rd storage shed/staging spot for getting ready. We have a bunch of batteries as well as a small generator to power necessities like the TV for football :)

Various shots just parked in the woods (we had a logging crew put in a "road" a few years ago, most of the property is essentially fire road)

Your girls are cuties!

A question about your hitch hauler: can you open the tailgate with it attached?

sadly no. It needs about 1/2-1” more clearance so the spare doesn’t hit it. I bought an extension because the hitch hauler itself doesn’t clear the tire, I probably should have gotten something like the below but I didn’t want to lose the ground clearance.

Thanks. I’m thinking of options for extra storage, but want to be able to easily open the tailgate to let the dog out of the back.

Cool! We are taking a break to eat Thanksgiving dinner here. Selective harvesting is always best!

We hunt on about 400 acres here in west TN, backs up to national forest & Forked Deer River. In-laws own it too, always good to marry a lady whose family hunts.

I look forward to getting my JLUR & set it up for hunting & fishing. My old Toyota truck is getting cramped. My daughters hunted with me & now I hunt/fish with them & the grand kids.

Happy Thanksgiving y'all!

I use a folding hitch rack with extension to clear the spare tire. Rack stays folded up until I need it or the dog needs to get in or out. Rack is rated for 750#. Haven’t tested the capacity but it has hauled out deer, boar and elk without any issues.

If it can hold game, it can hold beach chairs and an ice chest :). Do you have a link or brand? Thanks.

Looks like a great weekend. Get a front mount hitch so you can get the winch to help you load everything up and still use the tailgate and not have to worry about clearance issues. I’ve been set up like this on 2 different Jeeps (JK/JL) now and it works great!

I just bought what looks like the same as you OP! I bought mine at princess auto in Canada. Still in the box so i haven't tried it out yet. I'm assuming I'll have to get an extension also.

Here's a few pics of this season's hunt

Tossed a pulley in an oak tree this time. Could have used the hitch hoist but I didn’t want to unload the hitch rack to use it. Two of them were rifle and two were archery.
