Question for those of you already on the road with your JL. How's the cruise control function (non-adaptive)?

Does the vehicle maintain speed without slowing down going up hill? Does it maintain set speed going downhill or does it exceed the speed set on cruise control?

This was one of my main pet peeves on the JK, not maintaining the speed.

The JL does an excellent job of control both up hill and down.

Downhill it actually slows the Jeep to the correct speed.

I can even use it in the long school zones here at 20 mph and it stays at 20.

Thanks for your reply :) Really happy to hear that this is the case! I've driven a few cars that don't maintain set speed... had me pulling my hair out every time!

I drove 800 miles round trip on a very hilly highway route (truck runaway ramps) in my JLUR and it stayed 99% on point when set at 73mph. In very limited extreme cases, it dropped 2 mph briefly.
Thanks for your detailed reply :) Really good to hear.

Does it use the transmission to slowdown downhill? Or is it using the brakes?

Has anyone gone on a long road trip with their JL yet? How was it? Especially compared to a JK long road trip.
In theory with the new 8-speed and proper programming (lol FCA cough cough), cruise control could be really smooth and amazing in the new JL.

Oh dear... that brings me to the question "what about with a the MT"? I hadn't planned on ordering an auto.

I have found that my Grand Cherokee did a much better job at maintaining downhill speed. I have a hill directly leaving my house and my cruise if set at 33 will always hit 36-37 before it starts to slow down. I've found that I have to set it at 1 mile over the speed limit at 31 just so it barely exceeds my 33 threshold (cops in my area are pretty ticket happy). Other than that, it is just fine on the highway for me. I also think my JK was about the same if not a little better going down the same hill if that helps or matters.

Works great, not like the jk that when you hit a bump it knocks the cruise off...

I did a 300 mile trip a couple weekends back, open road, some steep hills and it did a great job keeping the set speed. Normally I don't use it because most of my driving involves NYC/Long island traffic jams where to me it's kind of a useless feature without it being adaptive.

Does the Pentastar 8spd really prefer 2450 rpm for 70 mph flat land hi-way cruise like the charts & formula's say? Seems high but I'm used to the Hemi 8spd.
