Just bought my first Jeep last month and right around the 1000 mile mark I started noticing a long howling / whining sound that would come up when I accelerated as low as 25 mph and it would die down when I came to a halt and the engine would auto shut off only to start again as I accelerated.

I noticed that the good gets overly hot in any 1-1.5 hr of driving but since I never owned a Jeep before don't know if that's normal.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Sounds like your turbo. Turbo will also generate a lot of heat

Really? It can't be normal can it? The sound is so loud and annoying that you have to blast the stereo all the way up to mask it. At $50k and 1500 miles you wouldn't expect that.

Both of the 2.0 JLs I've had were noisy when starting off in the lower RPMs.
I think it's either the assist motor or the trans. VERY noticeable with the windows open or running topless.

I wonder if turning the auto-start feature off would help.

One of the very first things I noticed between the 2.0T and 3.6 was the difference in noise. The 3.6 is slightly quieter, you barely hear the engine at low rpm while driving around at 20-30 mph. The very first 2.0 I test drove back in late 2018 had a very slight whine when accelerating from a stop. It was very slight but definitely noticeable. I could hear the whine with the windows closed. I assumed it was either turbo whine or belt whine from the eTorque. It sounded more like a belt whine now I think about it more? Like a belt driven supercharged engine. I test drove about 6-7 more 2.0s later on and don't recall if there was noticeable whine? If there was, it was not nearly as noticeable as the very first 2.0 I test drove. I own a '19 JLR 2.0 now and don't notice whine at all with windows up. I have the Active Noise Control so not sure if that makes any difference? I have not had the top off yet. I don't even think I notice any whine with the windows down? I will drive around today with windows down to see if I notice it.

Please keep us updated. Iā€™ve got the same thing. Happens intermittently. It almost sounds like an out of phase active noise cancelling signal.

Hi DarinFred,
I understand that you are waiting to hear back from rrwins on a solution to this. In the meantime, we suggest having your dealer inspect this concern. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.
