so I am wondering how do I secure my viair compressor and other items when I’m out on the beach?
I’ll don’t want to spend $700 for a backbone. Anyone use a locking toolbox or similar that could be chained to the back?

While it's not much space, the cubby in the back can't be opened when the tailgate is locked. So if it is small enough to fit in there it will be secure.

I bought a lock box (channellock Job Site Tool Box (SP19102)) for $102. It fits perfectly behind the rear seat and I ratchet strapped it to the floor handles. I also used a bike lock to secure it. I park in urban areas and my compressor, tools and work bags have been untouched.

That might work in the wife’s 2 door. Going to have to measure...

Wow, thanks for pointing out. I was not aware of that.

Exactly what I’m thinking of. Thanks. I’ll check it out.

Works every time. An NRA sticker on the window gives them the message
So you’re the tool strolling around the beach with a Desert Eagle stuffed down his swim trunks? I always wondered who guy was and what his deal was. Now I know.

OP, there’s something to be said for simply making sure that valuables are hidden out of sight. A $5 moving blanket draped over cargo won’t physically stop anyone from snatching your stuff, but it keeps it out of easy view and makes for a less attractive target. Also if it’s just the compressor or a few small items, $6 worth of chain and a padlock makes it too much work for the average casual thief.

Build a deck lid for the back.

I took cardboard templates to a machine shop and had 3 pieces formed in 11 gauge stainless. I painted with bed liner and used thumb screws so the one piece top/back is easily removed. Total cost was about $400. Definitely worth the piece of mind.

No the tool is flesh, my guy is in the back between my cheeks.
