Hey guys I'm in a bind mid install. Realized my oem upper front shock bolt has threads that prevent it from seating in the shock. Really hoping someone carries a bolt tomorrow am. This is the dynatrac kit.

Any ideas @Northridge4x4 ?

I’m shooting from the hip here but think those threads are to hold onto the washer. However, I don’t think I’ve ever noticed them looking like that. You could use a drill and slightly open up the shock sleeve, tap it in with a hammer and unthread it a couple times or just suck it down and see if it’ll pull thru.

What's the diameter of the bolt?

If 13mm or less chuck it up in a hand drill, clamp drill in vise and lock trigger on. Gently grind the threads down. Hand file would work too if you can clamp the drill body sufficiently

Or sneak into a local machine shop and give the first guy you see $5 to turn those down. Should take 2 minutes total.

If there's any local votechs around you (ha! Like we're teaching skilled labor anymore!) this is the kinda thing they love to throw at their first semester students. Most will do it gratis to maintain good will w the community

This was my other thought. Pound bolt into sleeve, take impact and spin it in both directions with reckless abandon. It WILL self-clearance

I took a grinder to the threads and it works. Now I'm stuck on how the hell to remove the upper rear sway bar end link. Looks like the the upper bolt goes into a ball joint so it just spins and spins even though the sway bar link is fixed. Any ideas? I thought I could bend out the sway bar link and it would lock in but nope

There’s a place for an Allen head wrench or socket on the end of the shaft. Get your 18mm wrench on the nut and Allen head in the bolt and loosen

So I learned a lot with this install. 2 jack stands and a floor jack working solo. 3 hours last night, 5 hours today but its complete. Pretty rewarding when finished and pretty glad I only went with 2in.

98 degrees in tampa today so probably lost 10 lbs. I'll do a write up of the things I learned later but here she is.
