so I’ve seen these amazing fully modded wranglers. Do folks buy a base themselves and then mod them or do local aftermarket companies mod them out and then sell them. If so who are these firms in the nyc area? Does adding a lift void the warranty? Any general advise on getting a tricked out JL?

The dealer can do the Mopar lift and bigger tires. You can easily do most other mods yourself with little effort

Fully modded is a definition only known to the current jeep owner and not a universal status... what would you like to have on/done to the Jeep?

There's a place just over the border from NY in Danbury CT called "Extreme Vehicle Builders" (EVB) that always has a bunch of jeeps being modded in house, so you can go there and get ideas (plus they have aftermarket parts and catalogs).

Some dealers will put on parts to build up an unsold jeep. A lot of times they do it as a way to draw people into the lot, but they will sell them and tend to ask for a higher price because people will pay for that. But you as a buyer have little say in what parts they put on as it is already built and they may have used cheap parts.

There are no shortage of 4x4 shops, not familiar with the NYC area so not sure what's around but if you look and all local Jeep groups you can find a good place. The only really shop I know in the area is liquid iron industries and they are in southern New Jersey, but they build cool stuff not sure they do just a lift on a JL. But anyways find a good shop in the area they will have better techs than a dealership, and better part selections and might even allow you to buy your own parts and bring them with you so will be cheaper probably than a dealer overall.

Now also you can just buy this stuff yourself and if you know what you are doing install some if not most yourself.

Now as far warranty goes, dealers can role in some of their parts into the factory warranty and Jeep will honor that. But if you go with aftermarket parts and non dealership installs you are stuck with the warranty of the new parts plus the install warranty in the shop provides them.

For warranty voids go the dealer has to prove that the failure happened do to an after market being installed but that doesn't completely void your bumper to bumper warranty. Example being you install a lift and your radio dies the next day, there is no way the lift killed the radio and the dealer must do the work and your warranty is still good. Now let's say you put on massive tires and you break and axle shaft, the size of the tire could very well be the case of the failure and thud the dealer can void your power train warranty.

About an hour away in NJ, SeaView Jeep always has a nice selection of modded Jeeps. Like some of the other folks said, you really don't get much of a choice then and will pay more. If you are looking for "turn key" that may be the way to go.

I grew up in Danbury and live a few towns over now. All my Jeep customers I talk to that have modded Jeeps speak very highly of EVB
