Manufactures save cost by eliminating the the automatic transmission level indicator. One justification for this is that the transmission is a sealed unit, & it is filled correctly at the factory, so if it doesn't leak, you should not have to check the ATF level.
But for those of you that want to know how the fluid level check is performed, here is a very informative video. I don't know if the JLU diesel has the transmission cooler thermostat bypass valve or not. Sometimes I miss the old 2-speed Powerglide from my '59 Impala.
