How many miles until your first windshield rock chip?

Well...suck. Driving to work this morning. A rock chipped our windshield. Bigger than a nickel. Miles on jeep was 421 miles.. So after lunch, I established a volume discount on windshield repairs with Euroglass in Redmond. I opened up with “we are at the start of a long and beautiful relationship”. The guy laughed. Now the chip is about the size of a large grain of sand. Barely noticeable!
FYI get you chips taken care of ASAP and you’ll get many years without having to replace.

We had our first chip two rock chips at 150 miles, and that turned into needing a replacement windshield five minutes later. Went through insurance of course, but it was $868 for an OEM windshield replacement.

Well that sucks. All I can say is getting ours fixed immediately made it so you have to know where to look to see it. That took all my anger away.

I made it 1,800 miles then got a 24" crack. Windshield replaced with Mopar glass that also included an antenna embedded in the glass on the passenger side of the vehicle. Total cost to me = $0, total cost to Geico - $685. Anyone know what that antenna is for?

It should replace the whip on the passenger front quarter panel. Not sure on how it would be connected though. Jeep should have come standard with a windshield imbedded antenna, one less thing to snag on the trail.

Hopefully they’ll offer a Corning Gorilla Glass windshield for the JL like they do for the JK. I have one in my JK and it’s awesome.

On my other vehicles, I’ve had good luck using the Rain-X DIY chip repair kit (about 11 bucks at Walmart). It works just as well as the professional Safelite type repairs (which I’ve also had done).

I had 1100 miles on mine before a small rock hit it, then spider cracking and then an 18 inch crack...all within 15 minutes! $501 later I have a fresh windshield thanks to Safelite. In NC you have to have an additional coverage set up with your insurance as the state does not mandate that the ins company has to replace with no deductible/penalty. CRAZY!!!
