While crawling under my Jeep, I noticed that the plastic boot on the front driveshaft was mangled. I didn't see any damage on the actual driveshaft. On one hand I see lots of other (aftermarket) driveshafts without boots...on the other hand, I saw that the splines were greased and I assume they should remain that way. What say you Jeep hive-mind?

I'm selling a completely rebuilt front 1310 Adam's Driveshaft if you're interested. It hasnt been used since it was rebuilt and only asking what it cost for the rebuild at $400. Will ship on your dime.

No offense taken. However I believe that a 30% discount from new is a pretty good deal as every part, but the shaft itself, has been professionally replaced. $570 new minus 30% equals my $400 asking price. No worries man, that's the beauty of America...people will pay more or less for a product, depending upon their needs and reviews of such product.

Northridge had a 15% weekend sale w/ free shipping in mid-Jan. Those are the ones to watch for. Got lucky and was able pick up my new DS for <$500.

A little constructive feedback...That same Adams driveshaft was $470 with free shipping on black Friday and cyber Monday. I could prob get it new for $550 now with free shipping. It doesn't make sense to buy a random forum dude's rebuilt driveshaft in Mesa, AZ for $400 + shipping which will prob total $450. I'd gladly pay $100 more for a new one from a reputable company that warranty's their products or wait until another sale pops up and get it cheaper.

There's no way I could justify spending $393 to rebuild a 1310 driveshaft to try and sell it.
I apologize to the OP for all the hijacking of his thread.

I accept the constructive criticism and would like to return some as well. I'm offering a practically brand new driveshaft at a savings over a brand new price. If the savings don't interest you, don't buy it. If you're not willing to spend what I did to rebuild it, don't try to reason upon why I did it. Everyone's situation as well as everyone's opinion is different. I respect your constructive criticism but I don't need to agree with it. If it doesn't sell, I'm not worried. Its not like it has an expiration date. I'll just keep it as trail insurance until I find a buyer.

It sounds like some JK owners have run their front DS with a torn boot for thousands of miles. I have no experience with this myself (I have an aftermarket front DS w/o a boot) and I’m not saying that’s the way to go, but here is a thread with one guy that ran for 6k miles:
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stock-jk-tech-12/torn-front-driveshaft-boot-174344/page2/
That thread was very useful. Led me to find out that a replacement boot is available as a Mopar part. Will likely buy that and inspect the driveshaft at installation. If there's any damage I'll look at upgrading and keep the old driveshaft as a spare.

So what is the purpose of the plastic boot to begin with? If it was to protect the splines then why don't aftermarket shafts need one? Perhaps its only for keeping dirt and crud from contaminating the lube on the slip shaft. That's just a guess. The stock DS doesn't have a grease fitting that I can see whereas my Adams 1310 does.
