As nice as the Gibson leather phone holsters are, I couldn’t really justify the cost. So I came up with a cheap version.

You can get cheap neoprene cellphone pouches for $5-$10. Or make your own using an old wetsuit. On the side of the console there is a round plastic cover. Pop that off to reveal a small bolt and washer. Take that off. Cut a small hole into your neoprene pouch, stick the bolt and washer through the hole, and reattach it to the console.

The bolt lies a quarter inch below the surface so it won’t scratch your phone. You could use other materials besides neoprene, but it needs to be flexible enough to fall into the hole and thick enough to protect the phone.

A 12 inch charging cable reaches it perfectly and allows you to use CarPlay or Android auto without your phone getting in the way of anything.

This is just 2 arms connected? I like how much lower it is
Yes, I added what Bulletpoint calls a Connector and a Mini 1cm Arm to the Universal Phone Mount.

Has anyone used the Magnetic Mount vs the Universal Mount? Any feedback. Thanks.

Another vote for Quadlock. I have it on my current Jeep as well as on my bikes. I’ll just need to figure out where to place the mount once the new Wrangler arrives.

Thank you and Pic18.

Pic18, when you said it falls out are you just saying it falls out of the grip or does the whole holder fall off?

The goal is to have the mini ipad directly above the infotainment lcd but without obstructing it in any way. I went through this entire thread and didn't see exactly what we're trying to do (at least not without a whole lot more involvement with rails and not at all minimalist)

I'll see if I can find a tablet friendly thing that will just attached to that 17mm ball. If I do and it works out, I'll respond back here. We'll see how that works out.
Sorry I’m just seeing this today, but the phone would fall out of the grip. The whole holder is fastened by screws and stays mounted in place.

I like my magnetic mount. It’s stupid simple to use with one hand and without looking at the mount. The magnet also works for my handheld radio and not just my phone.

Frustrated by the pricey options, I went low rent. Benefits: it's removable and does not require any modification to your jeep... plus it costs like $2 at your local big box. It's a nite ize rubber twist tie - you can find these in multiple sizes depending on your phone size and how far you want it to hang down. Have not tried it off road but highway at high speed and usual road bumps have been fully tested.

Nice. My phone mount is in the center tray of the dashboard. Worked well during the winter but in Vegas summer, over-heating the phone. I might try this so I can have the phone away from the windshield and also point the AC vent to keep the phone cool.
