Bottom line, there is a massive mark up on vehicles, from the actual build cost to the MSRP.

If If you order a spec Jeep, there is literally 2 hours of work for the dealership to deliver the vehicle.

you buy off the lot, there is a significant carrying cost for that inventory.

It seems like it would cost you more to order exactly what you want, but that is just not the case.
New cars get inspected, pre-delivery inspections, dealer prep, washed and detailed. Cars that sit unsold on the lots get additional maintenence if needed. Stuff like battery charging.

Cars in inventory for more then 90 days accrue interest from floor plan.

Ordered cars get picked up right away. There is no risk of the vehicle carrying floor plan after 90 days. I believe the dealer also has something like 90 days to pay for the vehicle. 90 days to pay for it even though they sold it right when it arrived at the dealer. That's like a 0% loan for 90 days. The control and use of that money is huge.

Was this off the lot or did you order? Care to share what dealer you used?
I see you are in IL. Criswell is great dealer but there are dealers in IL that will sell for that. Or very close to that and you will not have to spend time and money traveling.

I am fortunate as it looks like, according to the recommended dealer thread, I have at least one dealer very close to me that is easy to work with. I’m just working on compiling a list for once things settle down a bit I have some go to dealers to contact. I’m not opposed to travel, assuming the costs and mileage added to the JL aren’t over burdensome.

Criswell seems to be a excellent dealer for anyone in the DC area or is interested in taking a road trip.

The recommended dealer list is outdated. Make a few calls or emails to confirm. I am in IL also. For example I bought from Jason Beltran last Feb from Tyson. He's no longer at Tyson, he moved to another dealer closer to the City. Have fun with the build!

I ordered a fully loaded Rubicon from Criswell last September. They were great to deal with. No games, no forcing you to use their financing, etc. The deal was exactly as stated (8% under invoice with tread lightly or Affiliates Rewards). Only had to pay $300 doc fee along with tax and tags for my state (I live in NJ). All of this was stated up front and you will receive documentation showing exactly what the invoice cost is and what the MSRP cost is before ordering. Unfortunately, due to a Service Shifter problem, my Rubicon, is being bought back by FCA. I will be ordering the replacement Rubicon from them as soon as FCA picks up my old Rubicon. At that time I will receive a check for the refund. I dealt with Leon Travis at Criswell.

Here is his information:

1. FCA offers volumn bonuses to dealerships. The higher the sales, the higher the bonus check.

2. Dealerships make money on financing

3. Doc fee and wheel lock fee

4. Up sales in the finance room.
This right here, plus they're getting hold back from FCA and other factory to dealer incentives, plus they're selling on volume vs margin. (would you rather sell 10 jeeps and make $100 profit, or 50 jeeps making $40 profit?).

+1 for Leon. I just picked up my JLUR from Leon at Criswell this past Friday. Excellent transaction and Leon is hands-down the best sales rep I've ever dealt with in my life. He is extremely knowledgable about the vehicle and the entire order / purchase process and, as a former military man, is quite efficient.

A couple of minor changes - their discount is now 7% (down from 8%) with use of dealer financing or 5% if you bring your own lender and the purchase fee is now $500 (up from $300). You can refi without fear of early payoff penalty because of MD law that prohibits the practice.

We picked up our JLUR on 9/18. Ordered it on 6/12. Because of that, we received one of the last 8% with Affiliates Rewards and $300 doc fee deals. They cut it off right after we ordered. Leon has been our salesman twice and was a pleasure to deal with!
