How bad is registration in your area?

I have not been able to register my JLR that I picked up on March 13 because DMV is shutdown in NY, so I'm driving around with an expired temp tag from CT. I am not complaining because I owe the sales tax of $2300 when I plate the Jeep as well as registration fees. Annual fees should be about $125 for a two year registration.

sales tax at the time of purchase was (i think) $2700. ny tax is at 8.37%. registration is 2 year $110 for regular plates. custom plate (if i recall) was like $220. this august i'll have to renew it and i'm sure it went up.

Nope, not for a new registration. Now the credit union is mailing me looking for the title. Haha, good luck with that I told them.

In Georgia we pay a 1 time TVAT registration of about 7% of the vehicles value when you buy it (new or used), then $20/yr.
We used to get stuck with "the birthday tax" where you paid Ad Valorem tax on your vehicles. I still have a few older vehicles that I pay that in, but its only like $40-50/vehicle now.

Ok I know Jeeps hold their value but Good God! $768 initial registration and now $752 for first renewal, only a $16 drop for the registration!

I loaded my Rubicon JLU up to the tune of $55,900 when I ordered it so that's what Nevada is basing it on.

How bad are you getting soaked?

Annual registration of a privately owned auto (that isn't licensed as a light truck) is $38.00. Motorcycles are $20.00. That's it.

No soaking here in PA. We're not subject to usurious annual/renewal registration fees (an ad valorem tax, I believe?) that are linked to the vehicle's assessed market value, as it seems is done in Nevada and certain other states.

We don't pay sales tax for food or clothing, either. We've four proper seasons, and Rausch Creek and Famous Reading Outdoors isn't too far away, either. On net, it's a nice place to live.

Jeez, some of these are insane. $60 for 2 years (I believe) in Massachusetts. Our excise tax is a totally different issue. We paid like 2 grand the first year on my wife's BMW X7.

In California you are basically repaying sales tax (at depreciating values) every year you own the vehicle. Tax and spend politicians, people vote for them and then complain when they get the bill, I'll never understand it.

New Reg in Kansas this year for a 2021 JLU Sport Altitude was $840. Next year estimate is $800 ... Not as bad as CO ... but it's pricey. My wife's 2012 Dodge Journey is still $300 a year ...

Over $500 at 1 year anniversary in the socialist State of WA, we voted and passed $30 registration last year and the commie judge in Seattle just overturned the voters choice.

the real kicker is when you have multiple vehicles... including toys that just sit, but still cost a fortune for registration.

owning 2 or more vehicles is considered by the gov as being rich and privileged and so they tap into our veins deeper and deeper each new year

In Colorado plates/registration are charged at 2.3% of MSRP first few years (plus some other fixed "fees"), then that percentage gradually goes down. So for my new $43,000 MSRP JLU, it'll be over $1,000 first year.
