You seen alot of JL axels break with 37s?
Ring and pinion gear teeth on 5.

With 5.13’s, ring and pinion gear teeth are considerably thinner than stock 4.10’s. 37 inch tires add 20# to weight plus additional weight of a wider rim. Huge stress on all components, not to mention brake wear. It’s just a matter of time until something breaks.

That is why I am sticking with the 4.10 gear with it's much stronger pinion teeth. With the 8 speed auto and super low first gear, there really is no need for 5.13. As far as tire weight goes, I'm not concerned about that. I have a 2003 TJ Rubicon with stock axles, and 35" tires that was bought new and wheeled very hard over the last 16 years, and those axles are still going strong. All I have upgraded on them were front inner and outer shafts to chrome moly, and CTM non-bearing u-joints. Short of the ring and pinion, everything about the JL axles looks stronger than my TJ.

Ride is great. Trying to diagnose a small shimmy when I hit those bridge transition dips, but I’m pretty certain it’s a toe issue. Not serious but might go 1/8” in and see if that eliminates it. Running cooper st maxx and love them. Smooth and quiet on road, and amazing traction off road.

The ring gear is of a fixed size, so to increase the ratio between the pinion and ring gear, the pinion must be made smaller (reduced teeth) making it weaker.

I dont fully agree with all that was said here. There have been many guys running 5.13s on older D44s that have been fine. Maybe there are some accounts of crappy gear vendors or "extraneous" conditions that will break gear teeth, but we should be able to run 5.13s with these newer D44s. The newer D44s are stronger and build better than the oder ones. The above opinion should not sway you away from re-gearing.

We have 2 2019 JL's and to the question of "should i re-gear?", i would say: it depends.

I have the 6sp and i would absolutely re-gear running 37s, especially if you tow. I feel that you would lose too much if you didnt. If you didnt do any towing, you might be able to get away with it. The only experience i dont have yet is crawling, so i cant comment on that aspect (yet).

My wife has the 2.0, so its auto. On hers - there's absolutely no reason to re-gear. That turbo holds the added weight VERY nicely and you can feel the turbo when accelerating....like there was no weight added at all....it's surprising.

To cover all the bases - i dont have personal experience with the 3.6 auto, but my buddy runs 37s on hit 3.6 auto and he has not felt any need to re-gear yet. That being said: he does not tow and he hasn't been crawling yet either. I will be glad to update my opinion down the road, but we should have more confidence than maybe what was said above. Not starting the fight, just providing another opinion in the matter.

Running the 3.6 with 37” KO2s and Mopar 2.5 lift. Daily driver. No issue with it. Been running 37s for my daily drivers for about 7 years now. JL handles them much better than my JKs. Have always had 4.10 gears and an auto transmission.

Well according to the guy above. Your axels will break and your tires will fly off. Just saying

5.13’s are totally fine for 37’s. Don’t be a dumbass. It’s not a rock bouncer.

Plenty of friends running 5.38’s
