Just a friendly warning, be very careful when you are installing the Hothead headliners.

i have purchased 2 sets for 2 JLU in 2 years.

The dealer is replacing my driver freedom panel on my 2 month old 2021. I am OK removing the headliner from the old panel, but will need new sound assassin strips, and 2 new strips of double sided tape for the headliner.

I reached out to hothead to see how much for 3 small sound assassin strips, and 2 small strips of double sided tape.

here is the response from them

“Hi Matt,
Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear about your crack, but I'm glad Jeep is replacing it. We only sell the Sound Assassin strips in a bundle ($39.95). New tape would be $19.95 and shipping would be $9.99. If you have any other questions, or would like to place an order, please let me know.”

$70?

that is insane. I will buy 10 times the amount i actually need for $20 from amazon.

i already thought they were overpriced, but that lack of customer service has lost them a customer moving forward.

just had to share, to warn othwrs to make sure you do not make a mistake when installing.

Glad I went OEM now. At least if somethings wrong with the top they’ll replace the liner too. That sounds like robery

Not sure why you think they lack customer service. They buy the sound assassin strips in bundles from the manufacturer and that's how they sell them. They were willing to help but you didn't like the way they wanted to help.

You can't go into a store and buy 2 slices of bread, you can't take one beer from a 6-pak because you don't want the other 5 cans, I can't buy 27" of duct tape...I have to buy the whole roll.

I'd be more upset over the cracking top than a guy trying to help you.

A couple things.

They do NOT sell them in the same bundles they purchase them. They buy the sound assassin in giant rolls, as it is cheaper that way. they cut the strips s. that is the "trips in the appropriate width for the install in the depressions in the roof panels. Finally they put 16 of these strips in a plastic bag, as that is how many they include with a headliner kit if you purchase the sound assassin add on.

(I know this as I asked the owner when I talked to him on the phone with several questions before I bought my first one)

That is why I did not think it un reasonable to ask to purchase the 3 strips that i need. (who knows, maybe it was unreasonable)

The double sided tape for the install of the headliners is also sold in rolls. they simply cut the tape in to strips the appropriate length for the headliner.

now again, you did not read my entire post, or didn't understand, as I was not asking for anything free. In your example I would consider it bad customer service to try to sell me 2 slices of bread for twice the price of a loaf, or 1 can of beer for twice the price of a 6 pack.

I agree that a business can sell at any price they want. I take exception to the idea that gouging repeat customers in my specific situation is good customer service.

For example, with a 2 second search on amazon, here is the double sided tape in a 1" by 15.6 ft roll for $11.99.
Amazon.com: Double Sided Tape, SANKA 3M Heavy Duty Mounting Tape, VHB Waterproof Foam Tape, for LED Strip Lights, Car Decor, Home Decor and Office Decor (Gray,1 inch x 15.6Ft) : Office Products

Good customer service would be offering to sell me what I need at a reasonable rate, NOT trying to gouge me. THAT is why I have a problem with the customer service.

They could send you the 3 pieces of tape you need for the cost of a stamp, and charge you a $1 to make a profit. Shit is wild to me

bummer... yeah friend and I were looking for this brand. Unfortunate that they wouldn't work with you since they could still sell you what you need. Maybe too much red tape on their end. lol

First, you are not happy with their reply, and that is fine. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion of what good customer service is.

I take exception to what you stated above though.

The company was not trying to sell you few strips of replacement for twice the price of a complete packet.

If you want to stick with the bread analogy, what's happening is more like: through no fault of your own, someone else dropped two slices of your bread on the floor. But you really need those two slices otherwise your picnic basket of delicious sandwiches won't be complete. You go to the store and ask to buy two slices of bread. But the store will only sell you a whole loaf. And now you are mad.

I have two extra sound assassin strips from mine in my garage (like the long piece before you cut it). If you want to cover shipping, I can just send them to you in some UPS envelope or something.

OK, you still are not getting it, and your analogy does not apply, But I will go another route to see if you can understand what I am saying.

In your bread example, it would not be a grocery store, it would be more like a deli.

The Deli buy loaves of bread from the grocery store or bakery. Then they cut up the loaves of bread in to so many slices. I bought a sandwich that uses 16 slices of bread from from a loaf that they cut in to 100 slices of bread. I lost 3 slices, and wanted to see if they could sell me 3 slices. Instead they offer to sell me 16 slices (which does NOT equal an entire loaf) for 2x the price they pay for a loaf.

Maybe you do understand and simply want to argue. If that is the case more power to you.

we obviously have different ideas of good customer service.

I am done wasting my time trying to explain to you.

That is awesome. I really appreciate that, but I think I am simply going to order a bigger piece from Amazon that I can cut in to the strips I need.

Thank You again for the offer though.

Sounds like you’ve discovered what Amazon is for.

A lack of customer service is if they ignore your inquiry. A lack of customer service is if they were rude to you. A price that’s higher than a competitor or that’s too expensive for your wallet isn’t a lack of service. It’s just a high price. It’s important to understand the difference.

When I rent a car they offer the option to prepay for fuel and bring it back as empty as I want and they charge me a set amount to fill the tank. I can also fill it myself and return it full. I can decline the prepaid fuel, bring it back empty, and be charged an even higher amount for fuel. I’ve got options. It’s not crappy service by Hertz that they charge $6/gallon for gas if I bring it back empty instead of the $2.79 I could pay myself. It’s capitalism. What are you some kind of commie socialist that hates America? OK, that last part was a joke (kind of). But the point stands.

Yup. They are certainly allowed to sell something for whatever price they want.

And you are certainly allowed to post your experiences.

As a week-old Jeep owner with a long shopping list, I am also allowed to scratch them off of it.

Just to close this out.

I got an email from Hotheads tonight offering to send me the 3 strips of sound material, and 2 strips of double sided tape for $15.

I appreciate them recognizing the situation and offering a very reasonable solution.

kudos to them for that.
