You keep harping on just the strut costs. So you are at $20 in struts plus shipping lets be generous and call it $10 so now its $30 just in struts and shipping. These also dont have the quick disconnect ends on them but we will over look this for now.

Now come up with the brackets shipped for <$70 for the full cost of the Redline ones, not to mention you can regularly get them for $70ish all in with sales.
As I posted earlier, I found a Chinese manufacture who make the brackets. They say it's around $3 for a set. I have requested a sample. It's 12 gauge steel.

Not saying we can get the whole kit for $23 but realistically it would be under $40 for a kit with Stabilus struts.

The thing with that iphone is it is a US designed, and based company. Much like redline which started the whole thing. There is buying Chinese products, and then theres buying blatant copies for cheaper in the name of saving a buck.

You realize the first hood struts were designed in the 1940s right?

Redline isn't the first, they are just one of many copycats.

So post the link, and whats your shipping on that and minimum order quantity?

And fuck it lets add one more thing. How long is it going to take for you to get that sample hoping its good? I bet a fuck of a lot longer than just ordering the one that is already here and you can have as soon as next day.

Buy once, cry once. And I love the Rivals. Really nice brackets, and strong struts, though it seems like they change strut suppliers here and there.

I'll second what's been said here. Country of origin doesn't necessarily equal quality. I've bought US-made crap, and I've bought cutting-edge tech from China, the most common example being the iPhone. That being said, all else being equal I try to buy US made.
I've had this guy in my cart on the AliExpress app. But occasionally while poking around these Chinese app / websites, I find a product that is original enough that I recognize that someone on the US market will eventually seize it up and start charging an arm and a leg for it.

In this case I have no intention ever buying this product, I have absolutely no use for it and honestly I think it's kind of a worthless design, but the problem is there's a lot of people in the Jeep community that will eat this shit up! 😞

Jeep Wrangler JL HOOD STRUT CHALLENGE!!! 1000017140

It bolts into your door hinges, and then wraps around the other side of the door so that it locks in place on your Wrangler. It's a pretty ingenious design, and I can only imagine that it was both developed and created solely by a Chinese manufacturer. I've looked in the US market for this product and I can't find it anywhere. So basically here's a prime example of Chinese manufacturers designing cool shit and then a US LLC picks it up and stupid Americans pay top dollar for it.

I see it all the time.

I will say I haven't inspected that seller on the link I provided above, so if you do order that product, just be aware that you're taking the risk.

I would show you guys my Alibaba cart, I have about 40 items that are just like that, things that are pretty cool ideas that haven't hit the US market yet, but I don't want to do all of these US-based Chinese purchasing companies job for them. Let them figure out cool products that might sell well.

I don’t care about any of this anymore, I just want to know who won the Hood Strut Challenge and what they won. I cast my vote for @yokramer as the clear winner here…of what I can’t be sure. @Tredsdert tell him what he’s won.
Cmon Terry you really gonna make me do it?

I'm not going to post the link (I also deleted the Stabilus part # as it will be my trade secret). I plan to order a few hundreds and sell the kit as "proudly assembled in the USA" to rah rah usa folks. I'm thinking $75 is a good price.

Beer? I’m not allowed to say much about beer except that apparently @Tredsdert has access to lots and lots of beer.
I mean we all know we cant expect to get "prizes" from forum members.

Nah all good.

At first, I was just annoyed by the original post under sponsor forum saying "made in usa, you pay for what you get". After read the long thread, I realize it's a good market. There is no point to talk to people to change their mindset, instead, I like to embrace it and get profit out of it.

I used to blindly subscribe to the "made in America" mantra too, but quickly learned that it is often a facade, and if you really do your homework, it becomes apparent that little to none of these products are really 100% US at all. Even if they are, the vast majority of raw materials come from other places and/or are assembled elsewhere. On top of that, advances in manufacturing technologies in the last 10-15 years have significantly boosted the quality of foreign-produced goods, making them highly competitive with anything made in America. Even when they are on par with American-made products, they are almost always cheaper...often much cheaper.

The latest issue that puts this in sharp focus is the FAA's recent (and unreasonable) crackdown on DJI. For many years, these high-quality Chinese products have dominated the US and world markets for consumer- and light commercial-grade drones because of their quality, capability, reliability, and low price. Now that the moratorium is in place, it leaves American consumers and businesses with no other alternatives, as any US-made analog (that doesn't even exist) would be far less capable and reliable, while being far more expensive, usually to the point that they are unaffordable for the average consumer or small business. The (uneducated) argument/political pitch is that this will spur US drone production...but that will take many years...if ever. We need to produce and process the raw materials, manufacture electrical components, and tool up the industrial foundation to put all of this together in an affordable package that average folks can afford. Given the unprecedented domestic and global socioeconomic setbacks over the last year, this is highly unlikely and the future looks even less promising if we continue on this path. Even if we can find an off-ramp, the damage is significant and will require generational solutions. Buckle up my friends.
