Bought in mid 2023. Not something I expect for $100 fancy struts
This is what my redlines do on a 21 JLUR hood. They have never popped open, you have to give it a nudge or two. Any other vehicle I've owned with factory strut hood opening just pop up after you release the hood catch, never have to nudge them.

Yep. All the other old cars, with OEM strut likely made in China, or turkey, they work for 10 years.

My Rival 2A.ST.2702.1 hood lift strut kit pops the hood open without lifting or nudging. Very nice kit with great mounting brackets. Feels like they often go overlooked but super glad they're the ones I ordered.

One thing that's always annoyed me about the whole "cheap Chinese crap" mantra is that in actual fact, the cheap crap is made exactly to the specs and price that the US merchant specified.
They are also fully capable of building high precision stuff.
As an example, like 90% of the dies in machine shops are made in China now. It's almost impossible to find one made in the US since all the old timers who knew how to do it are not working anymore.
If you want high quality, you certainly cannot expect it to cost 10 bucks.

I have the Rival hood strut kit. They included the Stabilus (German made) struts. They have worked flawlessly for the last 3 years. They easily open the hood unassisted and keep it open. The brackets are different from the Redline with the hood bracket having an internal reinforcement bracket. They still look brand new with no rust after 3 winters of road salt.

i just contacted a Chinese manufacture who does this type of automotive accessories. They quoted me $5 (or less, depending on the volume) for the brackets.

I'm also going to find the specific Stabilus strut for this length/force, and make a kit. Should be around $50. This should be a solid quality.

Stabilus is a real OEM manufacture in USA and other countries(look at your rear lift window's strut or 2nd row seat strut), not some warehouse-based assembling shop.

Will see how much it costs exactly. Maybe I'll sell them on Ebay as "Assembled in USA".

ym0bc1, attached is a pic of the printing on my struts if that helps you identify the model number. Rival sells the kit through ExtremeTerrain for $69.00. Rival number 2A.ST.2702.1.

I went with Rival because of the better warranty than Redline, and I don't put cheap pandaland junk on my cars.

I choose small business and made in America first. There’s plenty of ‘muricaland junk as well. I bet most of the high end wheels on this forum are made in China. Made in means almost nothing anymore.

@Redline Tuning is sending you a video of a malfunctioning strut sufficient for a warranty replacement rather than paying for shipping to get it replaced?
No it's cool, I'm going to upgrade to a $40 one from China this upcoming summer.

If a $20 one from China is equal to or slightly better than @Redline Tuning $100 strut, then a $40 one from China should be worth its weight and gold!

In reality I'm probably going to get it from Alibaba instead of AliExpress, so that way I can communicate with the manufacturer directly and get a significantly better one and make sure it works for what I need.

If that fails, I'll probably just go with Rival, I haven't seen a bad review of them yet! 😍

Why would you replace something that clearly has an issue with quality control with the same product that has the same issue? Makes a whole lot more sense to buy a better quality product and not have to deal with this in the future.
