Instead of hanging out in the hood, let's talk about how you hang out around your hood.

Was having a conversation with a friend, he always uses the prop rod and says most people do.

Jeep Wrangler JL Hood Prop or Lean? Hood-pro

I'm one of those always open it to the windshield, to get it out of the way, maybe being 5'-18"s tall has something to do with it.

How about you, what say you?

I lean it on my garage door opener, that's as far as it'll open in my garage... In the driveway, it goes all the way back, unless it's windy!

Prop ...

Without adding some cushioning leaning is gonna cause some kind of wear.

Have a friend who leans his and we had this discussion and went out and sure enough there was a very faint mark.

He later washed and waxed it and assured me the mark was gone.

I told him "you're missing the point".

Well how about that. I never even thought to lean it. This being my first Wrangler and all, I'd never seen that done. Now that I have, I'll probably put a blanket on the windshield to protect the paint and lean it. No hood prop in the way, and no hood in the way when you're working near the firewall. Win win.
Voted prop though, because that's the only way I've ever done it.

I used to lean but a-pillar lights preclude that now. Now it’s all prop all the time.

really depends on what is being done. Oil changes and fluid checks i use the prop. but working on installing something than leaning is the only way to go.

You really only need a shop rag, the contact area is pretty small.

Prop rod here. I'm 5'11". With 38's and over 4" of lift, even the rolled down corner of the hood is right at the end of my reach. I use the rod to more easily get it in and out of the propped position. I also keep a pair of knee pads in the rear storage compartment, because most everything under the hood now requires kneeling on the front bumper.

Both, just depends on what I'm doing. On the TJ when I was under the hood more, I'd rest it on the windshield but this has less problems so usually just use the prop rod.
