Hey all,

I'm buying my first Wrangler! So excited! Getting the bids in for my build and will be placing an order this week for a 2019 JL Rubicon. Quick question though, as none of the Rubicons on the lot here have hitches installed for me to measure. Does anyone know the height of the stock hitch that comes with a 2 door JL Rubicon if you order the trailer/tow package? The height of the bottom and/or top of the opening is fine.

I couldn't really see a section that this question would fit in, so my apologies if it's in the wrong place. Admin please move it to the correct section if necessary.

Thanks :)

Thanks Rhinebeck01! My trailer's drawbar is 17" so I can just get a 1" drop, thank you so much!

By the way, if you do not order the tow package I promise you will regret it.

I just went out to the garage and re-measured. My 2dr. Rubi is parked there on a flat concrete floor. Mine measures 18" as I mentioned earlier.

Not sure why it would matter, but was your hitch installed at the factory? What tire pressure are you running?

Months ago I posed the same question here and all reported to me either 18" or 18 1/2" bottom of receiver to ground.

I don't have my Rubi yet, just trying to figure out if I need to buy a drop ball for the hitch to work with my trailer, which I will in either case, as the trailer bar is 17" and the stock hitch is definitely higher. Happy that it's within 2 inches though as they are easy to find. I'll measure my own Rubi when I get it but just too excited and shopping for accessories before the order is even officially in! I guess my search terms weren't too great because I did look for an answer before asking the question. Thanks so much for measuring again though, really helps to know that the height is close.

I have geeeeez, over 50 years of towing under my belt so to speak.

What, I learned after my first 20 years, is to just invest in a half way decent adjustable hitch.

Over they years, you will acquire and use, borrow and use or whatever many different trailers.

Over the years,... you end up buying different rise/drop hitches... a 2", a 4", a 6", etc., and you end up with a pile of hitches and over the long haul spend a lot of $ on a scad of hitches.

Also, depending on your trailer, the height of the trailer tongue can differ by inches depending on, if it is loaded or empty, etc... or if you have passengers in the back of the tow vehicle...Today you may need a 1 inch drop and tomorrow you may need a 2 or 4" drop.. or you may need a 2", 3:, or whatever rise....

With that said.... I encourage you to buy a decent adjustable hitch. Yes, a decent one will cost you $100+- but you will always have a proper hitch when you are dealing with whatever trailer you are dealing with. Think tomorrow and years to come and how your needs will change. Buy an adjustable hitch and that one time purchase will go through life with you so to speak.

If you carry a adjustable hitch with you, you will always be prepared for whatever trailer you back up to ..... regardless of your tow vehicle.

I live near Gville and just took delivery on my JLU 3 weeks ago. Shopped it and got a killer deal from Chase at New Symrna Jeep. None of the local dealers would deal. PM me for specifics.

Hey GunnersJL, that's awesome to hear, I am actually already conversing with Chase via email .. I'll PM you for more info, offer seemed too good to be true so wasn't sure if they'd follow through.

They most definitely will follow through. By far the best negotiation and delivery I’ve ever had buying a Jeep, possibly any other vehicle. They were very professional. They have a guy there that is a Wrangler specialist. He did the pre-check and walk-thru with me. I sent them a check list before delivery, and the Jeep came to me with no issues. So far, vehicle is perfect.

While an adjustable hitch is certainly useful, the problem I have found with my JLUR is the length of the shank itself. The first time I hooked up my pop-up, I had to hook up the ball of hitch to the the trailer (uncoupled from the receiver) and have a 2nd person slide it into the receiver while slowly backing up. The trailer could not be placed on the ball because the spare got in the way. I solved the issue by buying a hitch with a longer shank.
