If you look at July sales numbers and YTD sales numbers, there are only 2 vehicles in the entire FCA company that are selling well. Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee.

Jeep Cherokee is selling well IMO because it's priced right where it should be and it's the vehicle that's competing in the heart of the market these days. Small SUVs are what everybody wants.

Jeep Wrangler is selling well because it's the icon and it's a one of a kind vehicle. But, it's not priced where it should be and Mike Manley needs to be very very careful with these two cards in his hand. The auto market projections are looking grim right now across the board according to insiders, and if FCA wants to have a chance to survive they'll have to protect Jeep sales carefully.

What I see are historical sales. Even with the downward momentum the last couple of months, they are still setting monthly sales records. Keep in mind that these previous records were set with the JK at FULL factory production. If the JL can meet or beat these numbers consistently, it's a win for Jeep. I'm not sure why some here think they will have to discount them?

There was also a large increase in the JK when it came out in 2007. In 2006, the last production year for the TJ, Wrangler sales were 80,271 for the entire year. In 2007, Wrangler sales spiked to 119,243, but went back down to 84,615 in 2008 and were fairly steady until 2011 when they redesigned the interior to attract the soccer moms. That's when sales shot through the roof and haven't slowed down.

2017 - 190,522
2016 - 191,788
2015 - 202,702
2014 - 175,328
2013 - 155,502
2012 - 141,669
2011 - 122,460 <-- redesigned interior
2010 - 94,310
2009 - 82,044
2008 - 84,615
2007 - 119,243 <-- first model year for JK
2006 - 80,271
2005 - 79,017
2004 - 77,550
2003 - 70,093
2002 - 64,351
2001 - 68,830
2000 - 82,254
1999 - 89,174
1998 - 83,861
1997 - 81,956 <-- first model year for TJ

Obviously, there were several years of economic recession and prosperity during this 20-year period that may have affected sales overall, but the spikes in sales clearly reflect significant and positive changes to the Wrangler and the Jeep brand overall. I think we'll see similar results for the JL, only to a much larger extent due to the popularity of the vehicle and significant improvements compared to previous models.

It’s actually more disappointing when looking at historic sales records. The historic sales in comparison were the last years of the JK generation. With all the modern updates and upgrades, the JL should be much higher than the waning years of the JK. My JK was outdated the day I bought it in 2013. An update was long overdue. I assumed the demand would be much higher.

I'm not disagreeing with you that they are expensive, hell in a perfect world I want one for free but we all know how that goes.

My point is if you are a company and you are making a product and they are rolling out the door as fast as you can make them then maybe, just maybe your pricing plan is pretty damn close to spot on.
According to the chart, it looks like their sales started dropping shortly after the price increases which is sooner within the year than the seasonal JK sales.

I think that it's just coincidental. I don't see how $500 on a $40,000 vehicle is going to matter that much.

It wasn’t just $500. The delivery fee was an additional $500 as well. Then the price was apparently raised again. This was on top of what was already a higher price to begin with.
People who really want a Jeep might not care, but it does turn off a buyer who is on the fence and finds the additional noise and rougher ride more offputting. Not everybody is cut out to be a Jeep person.

Presently , to be cut out to be a Jeep person , you gotta be rich ! The most expensive Jeep I've ever purchased was a 2016 JK Sport for $25K . And that was ' just barely ' . Now , when I meet a new JL owner , I say " Hi , moneybags ".

Then they will buy used or keep what they have. Nothing in life stays the same and this is no different. The Jeep Wrangler has evolved into another kind of vehicle and although I have no crystal ball I suspect it ain’t going back.
The off road capabilities ought to have improved into better capabilities . Same as the military would require .
The only evolution is the growing size of the dealer's and fca's profits now they found their faux customers .

Sorry to hear you feel that way, we will miss you here on the JL forum.
And I will miss the many good and sincere JL owners who enjoy sincere give and take in a vigorous honest conversation .

Price increase was inevitable. It has happened to virtually every car on the market. Inflation + more advanced technology + increased regulatory requirements means that the cars cost more to build. Also, if Jeep wants to make a larger profit (assuming they can), then that's great. Its called capitalism, and it is why you have the option of owning such an awesome car instead of having to choose between an old VW Beetle and a Avtovaz Lada. If you think the car is too expensive or if you are tired of companies trying to make a profit, maybe you are in the wrong place.

Thank you for the good advice . However , I'm not going to the country club amongst the escalades and range rovers , that's for sure . They're full of "infotainment" .

Funny. When I go to the Country Club, all the Range Rover and Escalade owners come to my Jeep and stand around and trying to take a peek wondering why it doesn't have any doors or a roof. But maybe they're just wondering who let me in...
