I just started building my under floor storage. Only one pic so far but I will post more tomorrow. First step was to pull out all the carpet in the back to get it out of the way. I also pulled out the tie downs. I’m going to use the bolts to secure the storage to the body.

You can't see it but all sides are different heights. The only one I didn't have to modify was the left side.
I found some metal brackets at the hardware store and modified them to take the original tie-down bolts. Some of them also had to be shortened to clear the basket. There are 4 washers each underneath the right side brackets because that side sits on top of the plastic. The brackets on the left side have 1 washer each.

It was a bugger trying to cut out a template for the top.

Here it is complete. I plan on removing it and having it sprayed with Line-x.

This pic shows how close I got to the tailgate

Last time I made one of these I put the piano hinge in between instead of the outside but I find this much harder to line things up.

I added some latches. I had to fabricate my own top clip because I couldn't find any with a 90 degree bend.

I finally finished the project with a hydraulic lift

Please keep me posted as I am brainstorming on build options for my 2 door floor storage! I look forward to seeing what you come up with - thanks.

Interesting, look forward to seeing the progress.

Are you going to account for the Sub?

Is the storage more for convenience or security?

I’m going to stay about a half inch from the sub. Not sure how that will affect the sound. It will be secure and hold all my recovery gear and tools. It will also only be 4.5” deep so my dog can still be on top of it. I’m thinking of covering it with line-x if it doesn’t cost too much

Shouldn’t affect it if it’s not pressing on it, keeping a good gap from the sub should keep it from impeding or interacting (baring loose [or is that LOSE ;)] bits & pieces) to avoid vibrations.

You might want to put a foam buffer or cloth or something there to keep debris or random things from getting into the gap, which would likely buzz, etc with low freqs.

Are you doing a hinged opening (above or rear) or sliding drawer type access? or just an open maw to the swing-gate?

Are you going to do anything special with the underfloor cubby?

I’m going to go with a lid that is hinged at the back. I thought about a drawer but then I can’t use the original storage area. I like your idea of a foam buffer between the lid and the base.

Dang it had to go and snow last night. I have a metal roof so I can’t have the jeep half way out the garage in case of an avalanche. This is going to make a difficult build today.

I added some more pics to the first post. I still need to remove it and have it sprayed with Line-x, add a lock and maybe a couple of hydraulic lid openers.

Edit: oh and I might add carpert to the inside.

Might a rubber matt like those for entry ways & foyers be easier to clean and gripier?

Good idea but with Line-x I get the sides too which I think would look more professional. When I am done, I want it to look like something I bought. I'm also planning on getting a full size cargo tray once they are available so water spills will be contained.

Looks good. Thanks for sharing.

I’m surprised you didn’t cut the sides to fit the floor ribs as you did on the top. Any worry about small items slipping underneath?

Not in my case. My straps are stored in that area. Also, anything that small I usually put in a container.

Edit: also, I plan on lining the inside with carpet which should fill the gap
