I would consider the Recon if it was available with optional powertrains. Special editions are cool enough but far from unique. The editions we create ourselves are the best. That old YJ of mine was unique several times over. The JK just once but unique anyway, it has Recon axles.

I think the issue is that its seen as just parts bin stuff. Bolt ons that already exist and stickers.

The old Recon had upgraded axles that you didn't get on other models.

I think we expected more.

It is hard to take a "special edition" seriously when it is no more than a bunch of stickers and off-the-shelf add-ons, without adding anything of substance or unique.

If it does, it'll only be unique for a short time. The 10th Anniversary Rubicon was special until Jeep decided to offer its parts as a Rubi package a year later. Dodge kinda did the same thing with the Demon and the Hellcat Redeye.

This is true, I have a 75th and it looks like a 10th anni rubi.

Yeah I'm was so hoping the 80th (2021) anniversary edition will be something really cool with unique specs. I'm no longer holding my breath

The 75th has the bronze steel bumpers and bronze wheels were exclusive to that edition which was cool! But the 70th jk was literally a badge and some interior treatment. I’m guessing they went more on the 75th because 2016 was supposed to be the last year of the jk. But you never know with Jeep!

All I want are the red seat belts - sounds like my Rubicon is already equal to or better than this. The old Recon at least had a few nice upgrades that weren’t available on other trims.
