Help with decision on a 2023

Jeep Wrangler Willys XR
Hello all, first of all, thanks all for all of the info on this forum. I am getting ready to order a new 2023 Willys or Rubicon. Have built both and sent them to dealers on the list, the major diff between the 2 is the Willys has the XR package on its build and the Rubicon does not. The prices are very close to one another. Will not be doing any extreme off road in either but would probably get the rubicon lifted a bit. Any insights/opinions are greatly appreciated.

Welcome x2✋...Rubicon for me 2...I do like the Willys .. specially with the Xr Package. Just a consideration even though warranties are only as good as the Dealerships, that being said the Willy will have coverage on the lift and larger tires also.

Welcome! Before deciding, you might check what each will cost to insure. I've read that Rubicons are more to insure, although I have no data to support that claim.

My new Rubicon XR was cheaper to insure than my 10 year old VW Golf. In general Jeep Wranglers are cheaper to insure than most other cars on the road.

Honestly, sounds to me like the willys would fit you very well. My stock sport on 31" tires and the LSD went pretty much everywhere. I dont think i would have gone to rubicon take off axles if i could have gotten the willys XR with the heavy duty axle's with 4.56 and 35's from the factory. I mean if youre going the route of the rubicon you'll have to do a small lift and add a bigger offset wheel just to get the same look as the XR and you still wont have the correct gearing for the 35" tires

In this specific scenario, I would go Willys XR over Rubicon.

Can't go wrong either way, though!

Edit: Apparently there are some with regrets.

As mentioned on this forum numerous times, nobody regrets getting a Rubicon, but many regret not getting one. You can add 315/70/17 tires on a stock Rubicon and not rub. Yes, the Willys XR is a nice Jeep, but if you want a Rubicon, get it.

Get the Willys. Leave it stock.

I have the Rubicon and I love it. But I wanted/needed and use lockers and swaybar disconnect and lower t-case gearing and have added skids and a lift and bigger tires. Love it.

But if I was not doing the "harder" trails a Willys would be great and probably more enjoyable as a DD than my Rubicon is. Heck, if I wasn't going to use it for anything other than pavement and dirt roads, a basic Sport would be a blast.

I have regretted getting a Rubicon...!

It must have been built on a Friday, by a crew high on meth. It was a total POS.

Get the Willys XR. You could always add lockers later if needed. The only other thing you would miss out is the way bar disconnect system. On the flip slide you get factory warrantied lift, 35s and 4.56 gears

You will spend about the same amount of money on lockers as you would on regear + 35s.

This is a JL forum. That is a Rubicon, just not a JL.
My point is some people can, and do, regret getting a Rubicon.

As someone mentioned above, the only thing I miss from a Rubicon is the swaybar disconnect. On the other hand, I love the LSD and the Selec-Trac, especially in winter. Wish Jeep just offered a bit more flexibility with some of these features.

Willys offers tremendous value: it is the sweet spot in the entire Wrangler lineup.

IMO Rubicon is not always the answer. It will depend on the buyer, on the intended use, etc.
