Hoping y'all can help me out here. For few weeks, I kept hearing odd noises in my garage but never really got around to finding out the source. I'm deaf and have a cochlear implant so I can hear things. Just can't pinpoint where sounds come from. I finally got around to try to figure out where the noise was coming from and it seems to be coming from the Jeep. I closed my garage door without the Jeep in the garage, nothing. Moved the Jeep into the garage and closed the door, the noise comes back so it's gotta be the Jeep. It's a clicking sound with an occasional metal clanking. Here's a video with the clicking (didn't record long enough to catch the clanking sound). Is this normal? If so, what is causing it?

Was the engine hot or cold? I hear something but can't tell what.

Likely coming from the catalytic converter/exhaust, if itā€™s like a ticking/clicking sound and itā€™s absolutely normal, mine does the same, especially after you went for a long drive and shut down the Jeep. Thatā€™s the sound of metal expanding/contracting when heating up/cooling down, will click for about 30 minutes until the metal cools down.

Do you also hear it from your Jeep as well? I never really noticed it with my JK so is it something that happens on the JL?

Ok. Then I agree with Arterius2. I was thinking something along those lines is why I asked.

Yep, mine does the same, some vehicles will do this and others not. Might have something to do with how the exhaust gas is being handled on the JL.

Exhaust is contracting, as it cools.
Or, the engine is still on. :)
Any exhaust smell???

Don't think I smell anything. Will have to double check that.

Sounds you are experiencing are completely normal. The JL runs hot under the hood, and with the various metals used throughout the drivetrain/exhaust they are contracting/expanding at different rates as they cool off or heat up causing the noises your are hearing

Hi cns721,

We understand that others on this thread are stating that this is normal. If you want to be sure that this is true, we recommend visiting your dealer as they will be able to confirm this for you. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

i'm hard of hearing too. and i too have trouble pin pointing an exact location to where a particular noise is coming from. better yet if i hear the low noise at all. i have the same noise (around the exhaust) you are hearing from the jeep and like everyone else, its normal.
