I messed up and car wash ate the antenna and broke the mount., I have new parts but cannot figure out how to thread the antenna mount wiring to attach to radio..

I took glove box out but I do not see the existing wiring.. do I need to remove part of the dash?

new member here.. hope someone can help

thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately yes. I remember seeing a thread about accessing the back of the head unit: you need to remove the HVAC control panel.

It is a pain in the *ss from what I recall.

Good luck.

If you can’t find the thread on here, there’s a YouTube video that shows step by step removal. I’ve done it a number of times. Take you time and go slow you’ll be fine.

I’ve seen a YouTube video on the JK.. very simple.. but on the new JL version, I can’t find any videos.. I think it must be a major pain in the butt to fix this and feed the wiring behind the air filter etc

Do you have a picture? Mine attaches on the back side of the mount.

This is the pic.. the white end needs to be fed through the back of the glovebox area and attached to a wire from the radio.. what’s interesting is that the existing radio wire is not visible when glove box is removed., it must be buried against the back wall of the engine compartment

Did the car wash rip the cord in half? The wire just pulls loose from the back of the mount. Use the original wire and the new mount.

No the wire is intact. But the mount is wrecked.. the photo of the new mount and wire sure looks like the wire is a sealed unit into the antenna mount

Taking the kick panel off is fairly straightforward. It is easier if you know what tabs to push, etc....

The mopar aux install video from CJ Off Road has a good explanation here:

(At 11:46).

Seriously, who the hell over-engineered this thing...? This is just ridiculous.

No wonder dealers now need two weeks to replace a light bulb. And half the time do it wrong!

That video is so illuminating, at so many levels...

Gawd, who the hell over-enfineered this thing...? This is just ridiculous.

No wonder dealers now need two weeks to replace a light bulb!
The guys who designed the ESS system on the 3.6L rushed through it so quickly and shoddily, they had some extra time on their hands. So, Jeep said: ”go work on the antenna mount”. So, they really focused on the antenna mount.
