You won’t regret the 3.6L with MT and 4.88s with 35s or 37s!!!

My jeep was stolen in mar at a shopping mall.
It was a 3.6 rubi.
This engine is tried tested and was a no brainer for me.
In late june got my brand new rubi with xr package 3.6 l.
I just do not like it.
I FRIGGIN LOVE IT!!!!!!!

2.0 turbo is all you will need. If not 392.

You can make all the fake points you want and you still can’t get a diesel or 2.0 in the max tow package Gladiator their most heavy duty vehicle in the JL/JT line. It out tows the 392! X2 lol
The engine choice has very little to do with towing capacity. A rigid frame and suspension are the main characteristics that determine hauling and towing capacity.

Jeep didn't expect the Gladiator to sell in large enough numbers to warrant the added cost of multiple engine choices. The air to water intercooler for the 2.0 is located inside the intake manifold. This causes spacial constraints for increasing cooling capacity to support towing. A new intake to fit a larger intercooler, along with a number of other peripheral components, is more costs that Jeep doesn't see a valid reason to spend.

The reason every "help me choose which engine" thread never produces a solid winner ... it's because there aren't any. I too am hoping for a win with the Hurricane.

As for carbon buildup, high octane is not the solution. People mistakenly believe higher octane has more power and/or is cleaner. If you're worried about GDI carbon buildup, be sure to buy Top Tier gas. Most if not all old name brand gas stations are Top Tier (along with QT and Costco for the cheaper option). I'm normally very skeptical of these types of claims but Top Tier results have been independently and solidly proven. There's also the catch can mod if you're worried about it. Worst case sceanario is a walnut blast cleaning once or twice during the engine's lifespan and it's not the end of the world.

As for the diesel, I love everything about diesel but the first 2 generations of that engine had a lot of expensive issues. I was very glad to be out of my 2015 Ram EcoDiesel. I've heard the latest gen is better but we'll see. There are still some horror stories floating around out there even with the latest gen. Then there's the initial cost of the option, the added complexity and the now much higher cost of fuel. As for the short hops, yes, they used to say that was an issue but I'm not sure anymore. Heck, they put the ESS system on it!

I would join those who say 3.6 but in the last couple of years they've messed with that enough and too many people are liking the 2.0 so out of the entire range of poor to mediocre choices, I would say 2.0.

I’d say the opposite: the reason these threads don’t produce a solid winner is precisely because there are so many freaking options! Each one has its own pluses and minuses.

Do you want smooth operation and proven reliability? Get the V6
Do you want cheap fun? Get the 2.0T
Want good fuel economy on long trips? Get the diesel
Want to burn rubber and hear a glorious V8? Get the 392
Want to drive to the store without using any gas? Get the 4Xe

Have to admit from driving a 4.0- 3.8-3.6 and now the JLUR 2.0T, Yeah, yeah I know I've come down must be the old age. However I will admit the 2.0T has been great since I've purchased and wheeling without any issues, around town lifted (2.5) and 35's I'm still averaging 19.1-20.2 mpg-the only main issue is it sounds like a sewing machine when started. Best of luck and keep the Jeep wave going.

If price wasn't an issue, I would get the 392. Otherwise I lean towards the 3.6. I really liked the idea of the 3.0, but wasn't keen on all the added emissions stuff.

My 3.6 JLUR-XR Did a 800+ mile road trip just last week, with the jeep loaded with gear, 4 people, and surfboards on the roof. I averaged 19.7mpgs. That includes a fair bit of driving in sand.

I see 20-22mpgs often on the highway, but once you start going over 75mph the mpgs drops off quite quick.

Unfortunately, Pacifica PHEV hasn’t been a model of reliability and durability.

I’m gonna say a Willys L134, since it’s about the only Jeep motor that hasn’t been recommended yet. :)

Wow! That's impressive! I recently did a 900+ mile trip in my JLUW-XR 2.0, 4 people, and averaged about 19.5 but was doing 75/80 on I95.
