I have a 2021 JL Rubicon with almost 6K miles on it. Just the past week or so it the engine started making a different sound when accelerating, usually heard between 3-4K rpms. It goes away when I shift and then comes back as the engine speed gets back between 3-4K rpms. It is intermittent and hard to describe, kind of like a rattle. It sounds like its coming from the driver side, in the area of the engine near the pedals.

I haven't changed what kind of gas I use, and its happened on more than one tank of gas. It happens both when the engine is hot and cold. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks and agreed - something to worry about? Went prob 5500 miles before it started. Also what would cause an intermittent change in exhaust sound. If there was a hole or something wouldn't it be always there?

I’d absolutely worry about it. It isn’t a normal sound.

And by worry, I mean it’s annoying and the dealer should fix it. Not to actually worry.

Can you record it again with your dash displaying oil pressure?

I will try this afternoon. Hopefully it will be one of those days when the noise is present

Hmmm that rise in oil pressure seems slow.

It's not fuel knock. I read somewhere else it's lifters and camshaft. If not under warranty it's about a $1500 fix, iirc.

Mine sounds like a loose heat shield, until you have someone else rev the motor, and you get in there, then you can hear it's INSIDE the motor. I tried better fuel, but I heard it last night and realized it's still happening.

It’s more than that on JL, unless they only do a single head. Cam and lifter noise is more consistent than this, usually.

Sure. All I know is, I don't know, so I'm taking it in and I'll get it fixed.

I'm not swearing off jeeps forever, or buying a bronco. It's just a mechanical matter that will get sorted out. Hopefully covered by warranty.
