Help: How much gas does your tank let you fill?

The Jeep is currently at the shop and I’ve been told they are ordering a new fuel tank and couple of other parts.

I was able to put in 18.5 gallons when my range read about 35 miles. If tank is 21.5 gallons that's right about what I would expect.

Ok, I have a 2dr Sport V6 MT and and now have about 1700 miles on it.

I’ve noticed that when I fill it up with gas the gauge never quite goes to the very top. Also today, after driving it down to a claimed range remaining of 60 miles or so (a bit under 3 gal based on the avg economy according to the computer) or about 1/8th (about 2.2 gal left) on the gauge, I filled it up and it took only 12.5 gal.

Now the claimed capacity according to the manual is 17.5 gal. So that would be more than 2 gal short.

When I filled it today, after the pump shut off, I kept pumping until I saw the fuel towards the top of the filler neck (in case it’s one of those necks that has a tendency to shut off the pump early).

I thought I read here of others having similar issues?

So I surmise that either the gauge is very inaccurate, the mileage remaining calculation is very inaccurate (although those two seem to agree) or there’s a problem with the tank receiving the full quantity according to the manual.

UPDATE: After reading the earlier posts in this thread that 2ish gallon difference seems to be the same as the reserve quantity.

I came to this thread as I was concerned that my JLUR was reaching an indicated 25-30 miles remaining on any tank of fuel and I was only able to put around 18.5 gallons in. I decided to let ESS operate all the and have seen a 1-1.5 mpg improvement. I got 398 miles on my last tank and put almost 19 gallons in.

It is an app called Simply Auto. I paid the $2.99 or whatever for the gold version to have multiple vehicles and save multiple receipts against a record. I like the app a lot.
