Hey there,

The only info i could find out is that the OEM Tan would come after the 2-door. Sorry that isn't much to go on. *CassieAtBestop

Cassie, @BestopTeam any insight into when the OEM Tan soft top will be available to order from Jeep?

Cassie, I have a short wife that wants the power steps like we had on our JK. When ya gonna have em?
I called Best Top today to ask when they will have the power steps available, they told me next year. Sure didn't think it would take them that long to do the R&D on them.

Hey all!

We are working as hard and as fast as we can to get you some JL products. Our first priority is some aftermarket tops, then we wil move on to accessories. I will mention the Powerboards are wanted sooner to our aftermarket team!

Cassie @BestopTeam Any update on the OEM soft tops holding up production? Are they all caught up, can they keep up,now, with current production rates? We’ve heard a lot, but really know nothing. Have all the previous problems, whatever they might have been, been resolved?

Hey there,

I am getting an update on the OEM production status tomorrow for you guys!

And to answer the JL question, we had to wait and buy one just like everyone else. If you follow up on social media you'll see a picture of our new JLUs in Michigan when we picked it up form the dealer. I can promise that we are doing everything we can to get an aftermarket soft top on the market as fast as possible. I can say that i was told one, if not two will be available this year - 2018!

I was under the impression that Bestop was the supplier of the factory tops for Jeeps? From the Bestop website:

Bestop is the leading manufacturer of premium soft tops for Jeep Wrangler and CJ's in the world, and is the sole supplier of factory soft tops for Jeep Wranglers since 1986.

I am not trying to be a smart ass. I am just confused at your statement. If Bestop is the sole supplier of factory soft tops, how were they designed if Bestop did not have a JL to work with?

Hey there,

We get a buck to work and design on, among other elements that I am not made aware of, we dont work on the actual Jeep. For those that don't know, a buck is basically a shell with no internals, wheels or anything like that. I will see if engineering will let me take a picture of one of the ones we have here.

It takes about two years from start to final product, sometimes more/less, so we work off the buck until a full vehicle is available. The fitment and testing is done on the actual vehicle, but we can't use that for our own aftermarket use. FCA runs a tight ship and we have rules to follow just like the other OEM suppliers :)

The good news is we currently have a JL back in engineering and an aftermarket top for the JL is our top priority.

Hope that makes sense!

Honestly it does not make sense and I do not say that with malice. I say that as I am ignorant of the process that I know is much more complicated than any of us know. My ignorant thought would be that if Bestop uses this "buck" for the factory Jeep it could use that for aftermarket as well. I am not looking for a reply to this. I understand there are many things that I do not know when it comes to the process and manufacturing of items for vehicles.

Thank you for the honest detailed reply. I was genuinely curious as it did not make sense to me. I can appreciate what you have to work with better now.

Thanks! :like:

Hey there!

The Demand for the revolutionary new Wrangler JL soft top has been unprecedented – and we continue to increase our production to meet that demand. We know everyone is excited to receive their JL, it's like waiting for new parts to arrive, but times times worse :)

Only thing that makes sense is Jeep would compartmentalize production as not to let anyone a jump on designing of competing products. We do this a lot in our industry. Less people know the better it is for the business.
