The first time I took my 2018 Sahara with Selec-Trac off-roading, I made the mistake of leaving it in 4H Auto. There was 4-6 inches of snow on the trail. Them clutches didn’t like the combination of loose dirt, gravel and slush one bit; they stunk like burnt goat sh*t.I think many are more disappointed that it doesn't have the 4:1 low gear.
I'd like to know the transfer case number so I can lookup whether it's a clutch pack, center diff, or what.
I'd be leery of it if it's the same transfer case the ram 1500 laramie a have had for the last few years. Those clutches couldn't bear, one bad day in the mud and your transfer case is toasted cause the clutches just couldn't hold and get cooked.
Great for quick transition between 2 wheel and 4 wheel. Terrible for any serious 4 wheeling.
Lesson leaned, however. The first thing I now do upon leaving the pavement is engage the transfer case into Part-Time mode; problem solved.
I’ve been off-road dozens of times since then; in Part-Time the Selec-Trac performs just the same as the Command-Trac on my JKs.
