I know they don't advise you to do so but what will happen? Even if I hoist it carefully and evenly whats so bad about that? Has anyone tried this?

You can absolutely take off the Sky One-Touch Power Top in one-piece...once. Keeping it in one large, unbroken assembly, then re-installing it is nigh impossible, I suspect.

I bet the the only safe way to remove the Sky One-Touch Power Top, and ensure its mechanical alignment works correctly, is to reverse the assembly of it, piece by piece.

The unfolding solar arrays on space satellites are typically so delicate, that they can't be unfolded on Earth, the structure would collapse in a gravity environment. The Sky One-Touch Power Top is probably the same way, it will break or become misaligned if you try to take it off in one large assembly.

So it can only come off if you’re in orbit. Got it.
