Has Anyone Painted the Inside of Their Hardtop?

I have a 4XE ordered and one of the first mods I want to do is paint the white underside of the hardtop black. I'm sure someone somewhere has done this at some point.. but I'm curious if anyone here has any advice or pointers for attempting this. I know there's a few different headliner options out there but I would actually prefer a painted hard surface over that. Should I even bother to attempt it myself or get it professionally done? I can't imagine it would be that hard to tape everything off and take my time spreading a few even coats.

Can't stand the white and will going grey. And easy touchup with can of paint.

Yes, I’ve seen multiple threads on this subject.

From what I recall, prepping the surface was key to avoid the paint from flaking off.

Here’s the underside with it off the Jeep. Masking shouldn’t be too bad, but prep will definitely be key.

I've contemplated doing the same, and wonder if PlastiDip could be a good alternative with less prep.

Yep painted ours. Sanded it a bit and used rustoleum primer plus paint. Installed headliners then afterwards. Complete details in build thread.

What type of paint did you use? Any issues with smell/off-gas?

I used rustoleum chalk board black, No issues with smell but I did it in the spring when I removed it for the soft top! I put it back on in the fall.

I did mine with Plasti-Dip. This isn’t a great picture but I think it came out pretty good.
