If you had the Rubicon hood, why didn't you just drill holes in the plastic vents and remove the hood insulation? Seems you are trying to accomplish something that would have cost zero.

I removed my insulation, drilled holes in the vents and removed the engine cover. Running 93 octane in the 3.6, normal temp is 195*.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I cut the bottom off the plastic vents off with a dremmell tool. Then I installed a pre-filter on the hood insulation that will let air out but still keeps water from going into the engine compartment via the hood vents. Water still drains off to the side of the hood to the fender.

This is the pre-filter that is attached to the hood insulation.

Pre-filter will allow air to flow through it, but not water. Mind you it is directional.

Water being poured into the hood vent and draining to the side and out to the fender as designed by Jeep.

This is absolutely amazing. Best of all worlds. I guess the only holdback could be the water fording and the sealed compartment.

How has this been holding up? I ordered some of the pre-filter material and am about to do the same.

Since the hood is aluminum, you will want aluminum hood vents. Right?
No, the only reason you don't want dissimilar metals is when they are bare and touching. Painted or powder coated dissimilar items are OK.
