Harkin Hoist help!

Looking for help with my Harkin Hoist. I got it installed but I can’t find an angle that gets it to release. I can lift up but not back down. To release I need to climb up and manually disengage the locking part. I’ll see if I post a picture.

In my experience, if there isn’t any load (e.g. hardtop) on the hoist, it won’t release and lower very easily by itself. You have to pull on the ropes while releasing the locking mechanism at the same time. Unlock by aligning it in same direction as the rigging, at about 45 degree angle. Looking at your set-up, you may need someone to pull on the ropes while you release it?

I agree with the post above...Try attaching something to the hoist (not your hard top!)... at least 30-40 lbs to place tension on it to check for proper function.

Thanks. I did have about 30 pounds tied to it before I took the picture. Not the weight of the jeep roof but enough to give it some tension.

One other thought. I can’t tell for sure from the pic, but is the main rigging running to the side (and in between) the two lift points on the right side? If so, it may be binding at the center pulleys on the riser.

Picture with a cinder block hanging from it for tension. It seems to move freely through the center pulleys so think the problem must be on the block and tackle side.
