I just thought of this, when reattaching the front window or front panels, wouldn’t it help to have the door windows down? That way there’s no air pressure pushing on the front window or panels when trying to reattach and make a proper seal.

I don't think the Jeep is that air tight that this would make a difference ;)

If they are anything like the JK panels, the doors and/or windows would be open when you put them on anyways.

That's not necessarily true. My 15 JK is so airtight that when I close the door and nothing else is open I have to close it substantially harder to overcome the pressure difference. Lots of times the door only half latches because it needed more oomph. Of course when I apply that oomph and there is a window or other door open, it's overkill and I feel like I slammed the door.

Well you kinda have to have your door open in order to do it anyways, so... ;)

Yes but there is a big difference swinging that door shut than placing a panel over the roof. If you closed your door as slowly as you place the panel you would not be over coming a difference in pressure, it would be simply the size and weight of the door along with it catching the latch.

I think we need to distinguish between wind noise and wind leak. I am one of the people who has complained on this thread. I have no problem hearing the wind outside. I get it, that's a "jeep thing". My problem is hearing the wind leak inside my Jeep. As speeds increase I can hear air rushing in and then when speeds reach high enough and it is windy enough outside, that air rush turns into a high pitched whistle.

Agreed...
- wind noise, relatively normal.
- wind leak, whistling and or buffeting...Problem.

People experiencing wind leaks need to report to their dealer. If enough people lodge complaints, they may release a bulletin to correct the issue.

Yea I agree. Actually I think it's the speed of closing that causes the pressure wave. If you're slowly closing the windshield I don't think you're going to trap any pressure

I have yet to take delivery of my Wrangler so I have no idea, just spit balling some ideas to fix the wind buffeting issue. The first JL I test drove it had this issue but the second one I drove did not.

This is the best post I have seen about addressing this issue. Anyone that has abnormal wind noise should take a look at this post. Will take some time but may be the ticket to adjusting the windshield.

I didn’t come from a JK. It’s not fine. I was loving the noise level tooling around at 35 mph. Finally got on the freeway then ā€œwhat the heckā€. Straining just to talk to your spouse over the wind noise. I was sure at first that one of the windows wasn’t rolled up. Nope, Just a lot of air rushing in around the panels and windshield.
Hi Brianmac53,
Please send us a private message with additional information. We are working on looking into this further for you.

Can someone make post #158 a sticky so we can move along to discussions on other options to quiet the ride like various sound damping products, tying down loose wires, closing open panels, etc?

I'd love to hear more about the results and what weight penalties they may have.

Good luck ... I read on the forum, multiple times, that from now on RCA was sending all the JLU's with wind noise, iffy welds, paint flaws, ESS issues, back-up camera issues, cheap leather, missing decals, etc. to Canada for you canucks to deal with.
