Just got my Jeep back from the dealer for excessive wind noise. It only happens above 78 or 79 AND with a crosswind.

Dealer told me they can't drive it that fast legally anywhere around here (DFW) and that wind noise is to be expected going that fast.

Here is the noise I'm talking about. This is not normal wind noise. It sounds like a bearing burning up in a bathroom exhaust fan.
mINE ISNT NOTHING LIKE THAT JUST LOUD OUTSIDE WIND NOISE

I hope you find the problem that's causing that awful noise. My JL is noise free.

For what it's worth, please have someone else take the video when your driving at those speeds. Your family will thank you and that noise is not worth your life. I know, I know.... You're safe and all, but never say never man.

First off, thanks to all that posted suggestions on handling noise issues. I tried everything in here and ended up using masking tape to locate the source of the noise. I had the whistling noise between 40 and 60 mph (sounded like blowing between two sheets of paper). For me, the issue was the passenger side of the windshield - I noticed it was not properly aligned and the seal was slightly pushed up. Apparently enough to get some wind in there and create the whistle. I do plan on taking it to the dealer to check out soon, but for now I taped the windshield seal down using black electrical tape - whistle is completely gone.

Driver side - you can tell the gap from windshield to frame is wider (no problems here):

Good luck all!
Thanks for the update but I'm a little confused.

Are you saying the windshield glass is not centered in the frame?

If I recall correctly, the JK glass does not use a seal around it. It is simply adhered to the frame. It appears the JL is adhered to the frame along with an additional seal around the circumference.

I do remember reading posts about the JK windshield replacement. If the glass is not centered perfectly in the frame, it can cause a whistle. I recall spacers being used by the installers to make sure there is an equal margin around the glass.

Just google JK windshield whistle and you'll see what I mean. Could this be one of the causes?

Found this post interesting...
The whistling started on my first JK after having the windshield replaced. JK windshield release engineer at work said the glass must be *at least* 1mm underflush to the surrounding sheetmetal - at the top of glass - or else you will get the whistle. I heard that whistle quite clearly from 30mph to 60mph. It was so consistent and unbearable that I put a strip of electrical tape across the top gap. That solved the problem and stayed put for months without a sign of coming off. I had tried to put door screen bead in the gap, but it didn't fit tight in some areas and worked it's way out quickly. I had not nearly enough room to fit any vacuum line. I'm surprised that worked for a previous poster.

The glass shop that did the work told me the standard spacers that most every glass shops uses are too thick to set the windshield in the right relation to the frame (underflush), and they won't foot the bill or lift a finger to get the right spacers, so customers drive away with new glass and a free whistle to boot!

So for all of you looking for an air leak into the cabin, maybe there is none. The whistle could be from the windshield glass. Others may still have problems with the seals that join the frame/doors/freedom panels which could result in air/water leaks.

That's correct - the driver side gap from the windshield edge to the inner side of the frame is about 5mm wider than the passenger side. The thin seal on the passenger side ends up being pushed out further (you can easily lift it by running your finger against it - I can't do this on the driver side). Taping the thin seal to the frame gets rid of my whistle. I assume the dealer will end up using RTV sealant to "fix" it but we'll see.

I just bought my 2018 Rubicon JL and drove from Las Vegas to central California. I get so much buffeting I have to keep hoping my ear drums. It sort of like when you have only a back window down. After a couple of hours I had a headache and had to pull over every hour or two to stop the pain. Help??

You showed the dealer this video?

I know for a fact and have posted on this before. In my 5/6 windshield replacements in my JK, I kept getting a whistle at about 35 40 mphs. FINALLY, I found a knowledgeable Safelite tech who explained that because there is no frsme/trim around the window, that a tech coukd place that windshield in a thousand ways. But if it wasn't placed perfect you could get the whistle. He was telling me this as he was replacing a "whistler". When he did it, whistle gone. So if you are getting g that whistle (not the same thing as the disturbing 89 MPH video recently posted here) and you see the placement is off, it should be a simple fix. New windshield. I'm not sure if they can save an existing one..

I can’t believe how quiet the soft top is. I had a hardtop on my JK and this JL soft top seems quieter to me.
