Hey everyone, new to the forum and the Jeep world. We have had our 2018 JLUR for about two weeks now and Love it. Took it out with some friends on the dunes and now want to add a ham radio. Question.......I would like to know where you guys have installed the remote face unit? Anyone have a good mount for above the rearview mirror? The only thing we don’t like is how nice the new interior is and don’t want to just start drilling holes.......looking to do a clean install. Thanks in advance

I installed my ICON 5100 2 band radio using a Quadratec Quick DisconnectCB Radio Mount and installed the remote face unit above the dash using a 67 Designs mount.

JCR Overhead Molle, yes, drilled 2 holes in window frame to mount. I know you were just looking to mount the head unit, but you can mount all kinds of stuff on this thing and clear of the rear view mirror.

Have my FTM-400 on the 67 Designs 200mm arm-centers the control head perfectly over the head unit.

Very clean! How did you connect the control head to the arm? Can you please include a picture?

67 Designs are rock solid! I'm neck deep in them and I had to add a Vector bar just for all my gadgets.

You bet- used the 67d diamond plate ball https://www.67d.com/products/diamond-plate-alternative. (Mine's just the regular aluminum one, don't see that on their website.) Used one of the two holes in the plate to attach the control head using one of the mounting screws that came with the radio. Hard to get a good picture throught the windshield without glare from the garage lights- sorry! https://www.67d.com/products/diamond-plate-alternative

Thank you. The picture shows exactly what I was looking for and your explanation anticipated my potential attachment questions. Also, thanks for the product links.

Would you mind confirming for me which attachment you used from 67 Designs to mount the face/metal plate to?

I already have the 68 Designs arm and whatnot that I use to mount my phone.

So I bought the Carbon Fiber AMPS plate, because I guessed it would fit the 5100 mounting plate.

Well, I don't have any pictures, but that's because I just bought my Icom ID-5100a today!

Radio face will be attached to a 67Designs arm where I currently put my cell phone. I can't recommend them enough. Very nice stuff.

I plan to put the main unit under one of the seats, with a speaker somewhere. Antenna will go on the back on the @lod Destroyer bumper. If I don't get good propagation or reception, I'll move it to the front bumper, a la the Aussies, or on the hood lip for a ground plane.

Now, if you want to mount it above the mirror there IS a good solution. Someone on here (I forget who), used the Advanced Accessory Concepts Trigger 6 Shooter Overhead Remote Mount ($30). You don't need all the electronics and whatnot, just the bracket.

I am considering this option, if I don't like the face plate in front of me.
